Discussion: Top Colorado Court Halts Gay Marriages, Citing Ban

Discussion for article #225262

“A Republican, he has acknowledged that gay marriage will eventually be legal in Colorado but says he has an obligation to defend the state’s laws all the way to the high court.” Why?

Does the Far Right actually believe that by delaying Federal District Court rulings that they will eventually force the nation to accept their religious viewpoints on marriage? Well I have two words for the Far Right, they’re not Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday or whatever two word combination that is both nice and courteous. In fact those two words are vulgar and descriptive of the ideals of the Far Right.

Also why the hell does the Attorney General of Colorado believe that he has to spend the kind of money that it’s going to take to defend a position that is fast becoming a thing of the past? He’s doing this to have the other Far Right Squirrel Nut Jobz believe he’s acting in the best interests of a small but vocal minority. If I was a voter in Colorado, I would demand a refund of the portion of taxes that support the Attorney General’s office.

Trying to stop the tide with your hands will not win the GOP any favors with voters. But let’s keep wasting the taxpayers money fighting more losing battles in court to keep denying people their equal rights under the law. Pathetic.

So although he knows it is a losing battle he will fight on in the name of Republican grifterdom. Make sure all the nuts (Republicans) know he is taking it as far as he can, and please send donations for his upcoming campaign.

“…says he has an obligation to defend the state’s laws…”

The state’s laws are meant to reflect the will of the people. It is not the mission or purpose of elected officials to twist the law or to construct procedural hoops in order “defend” government.

We are government. Not him.

To say you have an obligation to appeal a decision is bull.

To issue license while the decision was stayed is bull.

There is a whole lot of fail on both sides.

Dude, we aren’t Texas. In 21 years I haven’t heard even one yeehaw here. Truck nuts, OK yes, there are a few swinging to and fro here and there.

Teabaggers are everywhere though, that isn’t a reason to disparage all of Colorado. Besides, it’s just a matter of time before they get handed their asses again. They are the losing minority.

It’s the Dutch Boy effect. Equality can only be held back for so long.

If, as you say, “they are the losing minority,” how come the Colorado ban on gay marriage, Amendment 43, was approved directly by voters and not enacted by the legislature? And if I’m not mistaken, your homophobic AG was duly elected by the citizens of Colorado, amirite?

I’m not saying that there aren’t many fine people living in Colorado --a few of my favorite people live there. But Fitley’s comment wasn’t deserving of such a response as yours, imho. And I’m pretty sure there are rodeos around Colorado where “YeeHaw!” can be plainly heard. Prolly in bars where rodeos are watched on big screens, too.

How is 2.5% that makes up the gay comm. make the other side that oppose it the minority. The math doesn’t add up.

I don’t need to be schooled on Colorado. I know what you’re saying. My point isn’t that it doesn’t exist, which is why I said that there are teabaggers everywhere. I’m saying that they are beginning to lose their control and power and people are seeing what they do with their power. The ban is being overturned as we speak, our teabagging AG is just grasping at the final straw. Gay marriage bans are being reversed everywhere and in much more red states than Colorado. This isn’t the beginning of the end, it is the end of the end.

I live in Colorado and have for over 20 years, I do not need to guess as you are and I was in a country bar last night as a matter of fact. Playing pool, dancing to a live band and seeing friends. No yeehaws whatsoever, we aren’t that countrified.

I am 100% sticking with labeling the teabaggers as a losing minority. They had some gains and always make noise but they wear on people fast. Oh, and they are just wrong in their beliefs and that will not last.
