Or six years ago they could have put the health of Americans before party dogma and worked with the Democrats to create a working bipartisan health plan.
âItâs going to take a lot of workâŚâ
But none of them ever offers concrete suggestions for amending it because every one of their Republican âprinciplesâ will take it in the wrong direction.
And he has no real suggestions.
Looking haggard there, Tommy boyâŚ
From a certain perspective, there is a bit of a gallowâs humor going on here.
The biggest problem they really have with Obamacare, is that people call it Obamacare. Which is the moniker they themselves insisted everyone call it when it was passed. So now they are in the process of slitting their throats with this disastrous bill, just to get rid of a name they came up with. They could just make a few changes to Obamacare and leave the Heritage Foundation framework in place, which is basically what folks like Cotton wanted to happen. But nooâŚ
Its like a kid making a mistake on the title of his book report, but instead of using the pencilâs eraser to erase it and re title it, he uses the pencil to stab himself in the jugular and blot out the name with his own blood as he bleeds out.
Sen Cotton fails to realize that his GoP colleagues in the House canât deliver a better product than the ACA!
So it does not matter what adjustments, you all may make to the AHCA bill, WE THE PEOPLE already KNOW that it falls short of what health coverage WE HAVE NOW THROUGH ACA!
In other words, it does not matter how they modify the TrumpRyan health care plan! WE THE PEOPLE WILL REJECT IT! FULL STOP!
That was very vivid.
A lot of Work? You can bet the Republicans will play at finding a workable plan much like they have done over the past six yearsâŚ
In the end, they may very well just walk away from the whole debacle and go with the whole Let it crash and burn and blame Dems framework. It wonât work out for them but that will probably be their sadistic âend point.â
You know they could add a couple of commas, rename it Trumpâs Big League Best Insurance in the World and most of their supporters would be happy. Hell, some of them already think Trump gave them their ACA coverage.
They did! Thatâs whatâs so frustrating about this (well, one of many things thatâs so frustrating about this).
Obama really did reach out to GOP Senators and worked with them. . . . .making the bill more conservative than what the Dems would have ideally wanted. Obama wanted a bipartisan billâbecause he thought it would be stronger in the long runâwhich is why the bill still places so much emphasis on the individual market.
Those same GOP senators turned on him thoughâone minute they met with him and gave suggestions that were incorporated into the billâand the next minute they were out in public talking about death panels.
Thereâs a really good interview w/ Nancy-Ann DeParle (Obamaâs health czar) on last weekâs PodSaveAmerica (podcast run by ex-Obama speech writer & communications director). They discuss all of thisâwith no small amount of frustration.
If the GOP would simply stop rat effing the ACA as well as expand Medicaid, it would actually work pretty well.
This is for Cotton:
The âblame the Demsâ part of that has already left the station. They have their fingerprints all over this, precisely because Ryan insisted on this pathway right away. Thatâs the issue with having majorities in both Houses and the White HouseâŚits all on the GOP.
And at this point, the stakes have actually increased quite a bit within the GOP. Ryanâs political credibility within his own party is pretty much entirely on the line. And once he starts making modifications, he is pissing off a sizable chunk of his caucusâŚfor a long time. Doesnât matter which way he goes with the modifications, its going to cost Ryan.
And my personal guess is, Ryan is going to turn towards the Freedom Caucus. Which will ruin him in the Senate. The point being, Ryanâs career aspirations are ending completely with this bill.
So what we need to do is ensure he tenure as Speaker is over once and for all too, by winning back the House in 2018.
A question that should be asked of Tom Cotton and other Republicans:
Do you believe that this nation has a moral mandate to make universal healthcare a reality?
If no, then they disagree with 60% to 70% of the American population. (1)
- Follow up question; Why do you disagree with a supermajority of the American people? What is your moral justification for your position?
If yes, then the ACA is the Republican/conservative way to achieve this goal.
- Follow up question; Since the approach to universal healthcare should be an iterative process, with continual efforts to improve it over time (2), how are you going to improve it? Why are you not amending it to bring back the risk corridors and adding a public option? What about lowering the Medicare age to 55? Do you have any other ideas to improve it rather than repeal it?
I doubt that any Republican would answer any of these questions.
shorter Cotton: âMy friends and I want this bill to be much much harsher.â
Similar to what happened in the shutdown fight. Dems agreed to a doublecheck on subsidies on the exchange. I had to file form 8962 for last 2 years. Consisted of inputting the info they just mailed me from form 1095-A.
I entered 3 numbers. Then, 11 mouse clicks on âsame as previous monthâ.
The town halls put the fear of Primary Jebus in him.
Do you think for one minute if the teatrolls supported him he wouldnât be for completely abandoning Obamacare and going âFuck the Poors - Theyâre on their ownâ
Always sidestepping
ACA = The Republican plan
We canât accept that though
Because Blackity Black and Democrats
If after eight years your plan still needs âa lot of workâ, maybe you should allow it to be condemned. Just saying. Yâall just ainât too good at this. Let the Dems run with it.
