Discussion: Tom Brady: 'I Did Nothing Wrong' In Deflategate

Discussion for article #238874

Well, the footballs may have been intentionally deflated (rather than losing pressure naturally in the cold weather), and someone (not Brady) may have done that, and Brady may have been generally aware that equipment managers manage equipment. So, GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!

ā€œTo suggest that I destroyed a phone to avoid giving the NFL information it requested is completely wrong,ā€ the three-time Super Bowl MVP said. ā€œThere is no ā€˜smoking gunā€™ and this controversy is manufactured to distract from the fact they have zero evidence of wrongdoing.ā€

Thatā€™s a classic, it really is.

You canā€™t find the bodies because I destroyed them with acid, so I did not commit those murders. The fact that I was caught with vats of acid is merely a distraction from the point that they donā€™t have the actual bodies"

Actually, I see here the classic over-reaching prosecutionā€“Brady cannot prove he did NOT do something wrong, and he did this other unrelated thing that looks suspicious, so GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!

Well Goodell Fā€™d up the Ray Rice debacle, so methinks he is overreaching here.

And Goodell as an impartial arbitrator? Ha!

If they had directly linked him, he would have been suspended for the year. They could not, but he did destroy evidence, so he got a much lighter ā€œsentenceā€. Seems quite fair. They should stop the whining and act like grown ups.

He destroyed something. We will never know if it was evidence of anything at all.

Unrelated? He destroyed the key piece of evidence against him, precisely because it was evidence against him. Nor is this an actual court of lawā€¦its an investigation by the league that pays him millions every year, and he owes his entire life style to. I mean, if he feels he is being treated that badly, he can always quit. But you and I both know he wonā€™t, becauseā€¦millions.

And he is being punished sooo badlyā€¦5 weeks of extended time off with his supermodel wife (who he would never have met, let alone date or marry WITHOUT being in the NFL). Poor fellow, how will he ever cope? /snarkoff

Itā€™s not about him. Itā€™s about ME! I root for the Patriots, and without Brady, we got almost nothinā€™. (Well, Gronk. But who will get him the ball?)

My wife says Tom Brady is too handsome to have done anything wrong and he loves football so much that he probably hugged the PSI right out of the footballs! Sheā€™s sure his balls are perfect! So there.

Wellā€¦I canā€™t argue with that! She wins!

Suck it up. I root for the Dolphins, and we beat you with Brady playing in the first match up last year. And this season he will be there for both games.

The 'Fins are usually the hardest team in the division for the Patriots.

And with that, I swear folks, I will comment in this thread no more.

There is a really easy way to get prevent cheating like this in the future.

While some old-timers might like to say that certain rules have pussified the game, Iā€™m at a loss to understand why everyone isnā€™t using the same ball provided by the league for all games. The NBA doesnā€™t change balls every time possession changes and your donā€™t have ā€œteam ballsā€ in MLB. In fact, this has gotten so bad that itā€™s done at the little league level. Two seasons ago my sonā€™s coach caught the other team using the ball for the next age level down. Why the refs didnā€™t see this, when it was visually obvious from the sidelines, is a mystery.

I hope the Pats lose the first four games of the season and that Brady never gets up to speed for the rest of the year.

Meh. The Pats are slow starters fairly often. Now they just have an excuse for the reporters already prepared when they lose some or all of those.

Itā€™s already known because they got the phone of the Pats flunky doing the deflating. Heā€™s already testified again Brady when he was deposed. Getting Bardyā€™s phone just would have close that loop. They are guilty of tampering with the Patsā€™ game balls. Case closed.

Goodell isnā€™t arbitrating anything here. The case was already decided by the lawyer brought in from outside of the league. Thereā€™s your impartial investigator. Goodell, however, has come-up with additional information which further confirms the ball and the evidence tampering.

Otherwise, yes, Goodell is a dick.

You lieā€¦

Proof that playing football does not make you a man.

But it was evidence that was requested, and he destroyed it. If a guy is accused of having kiddie porn, and when they ask to see his computer he says he destroyed it, he destroyed evidence.

No, ā€œevidenceā€ does not mean it is evidence of a crime. Some evidence in fact is used to acquit. Thatā€™s not the point. The point is that he destroyed evidence. In a court of Law, that is illegal, regardless of what the evidence was. In an investigation like the NFL did, it definitely is not cool. So he got suspended for destroying the evidence.

Ah, totally different scenario, as a fan that perspective is certainly understood. Iā€™m a NYer and not a Pats fan at all (though I did root for them vs Seattle because I canā€™t stand Sherman). But as NYer I will say Brady may be a pretty boy whiner, but he is without a doubt one of the top QBā€™s ever, and more importantly he continually comes through in very clutch situations.
