Discussion: Times Of Israel Removes Column That Advocated Genocide

The curtain has been pulled down.

The fact that any Jew—whether in Israel or in the U.S.—feels comfortable in openly endorsing genocide is a testament to how thoroughly ultra-Orthodox Judaism has corrupted Israeli politics and culture today. The Israel that I loved and supported in 1967 and 1973 was, in spite of its unabashedly Jewish nature, still a secular nation. Once Begin and Likud took power in 1977, the Israeli right and its ultra-Orthodox allies began their campaign of ramping up the pace of settlements on the West Bank with the justification of religion.

The article is still up on anther website:

http://5tjt.com/when-genocide-is-permissible-2/

I’m checking on that, This entry has Gordons blog heading with a guest host. Sounds like a feature to me:

(on edit) I believe it is open. Good for the paper. Bad that ideas like this a felt to be acceptable by anyone

If, as you posted later, it could have bee put up without any approval, then they did the right thing by pulling it.

It is very saddening that a people can so soon forget the history that led to their own persecution and slaughter.

A genocide is exactly what’s happening.

DOING it is fine.

Just don’t ADMIT to doing it.

Right, Israel Times?

His family’s paper (according to his bio) looked like they pulled it now, too, I’ve seen links to it. But the damage is done.

I realize this is just one extremist kid, not a power broker. But I also see the danger of a few extremists to peace.

The Hamas few that broke the cease fire this morning will be/could be seen as justification for full on war. On the other hand, this guy’s post is already circling the internet and is fueling anti-Israel feelings.

The Times of Israel might need to lock their guest editorials up for a bit. Here’s another one, this one has not been pulled.

Well it is certainly a question that should be being asked when a state is obviously engaged in attempted genocide. But anyone coming up with any answer other than ‘no’ is a fascist.

He uses the phrase ‘the Jewish state’ so he is a racist in my book. Israel is a Jewish AND Palestinian state and anyone who argues it should be only one or the other is a racist. We have to stop using racist vocabularies and phrases because they embed racist attitudes.

According to the laws of war a state does not have the right to ‘defend’ itself by causing unnecessary civilian casualties. Here there is very little risk to Israel from the rockets because they have the Iron Dome system provided by the US. One of the reasons they got it was as a reward for ending an earlier operation.

That’s just wrong.

Ah, the Israelis learned well from their oppressors during that period of unpleasantness from 1936-1945…

Not for me, but for thee.

He may be “just one extremist kid”, but he is not a lone wolf.

If this kid is so eager to wipe out Palestineans why is he sitting around writing a blog? Surely there are plenty of opportunities right now for him to put on an IDF uniform and do some genociding of his own.

I believe something similar was used as an excuse for exterminating the native people here in the US as well

Right Wingers, same as they ever were.

I find this editorial more troublesome than the deleted one, because it reveals a traditional attitude of long-standing. Even the self-proclaimed “non-religious” guest writer is clearly smitten by the biblical metaphor of undying, total revenge against the Amalekite enemys in every generation and guise.

He obviously paid attention in shul.

Until recently ultra-Orthodox males in Israel were exempt from the draft (2012?).

I’d be curious to see if this guy served or if he’s a classic chickenhawk.
