Thatâs OK. No need for lockstep. Itâs not as if anything changing the Hyde amendment is going to hit the presidentâs desk any time soon.
At this point in time, this is a very minor point of contention â if youâd even label it contention. Senator Kaine has a 100% Perfect Score from Planned Parenthood and thatâs good enough for me. Over the years, he has stated he is personally pro-life, but does not believe in legislating that belief onto others. He has stated he strongly supports a womanâs right to choose her own healthcare and make her own healthcare decisions. I believe him, and his tenure as Virginiaâs governor shows him to be a man of his word. The Hyde Amendment is going nowhere â Congress isnât going to repeal it anytime soon. Additionally, there are already provisions in the Medicaid coverage that allows for saving a womanâs life and for long-term health complications, etc.
I remember a president who later changed his stance about gay marriage. Happened fairly recently.
I donât fucking care if he is a Catholic, but imposing his religious beliefs on poor women is not acceptable. He should immediately have reassured that his personal opinion would not affect the way he would support and carry out the policies of President Hillary Clinton.
Unless thereâs a tie in the Senate, he wonât get to vote on repealing it any more.
Thereâs something thatâs more than just a little annoying about male politicians over and over again being asked to weigh in and then complying on a womanâs health issue. Sure, heâll be the Veep, and it could be considered part of the resume he brings to the office. But when does somebody ask these guys about their vasectomies? Or their prostate health? Or how loud they cough before the doctors handles their balls? Damn, itâs Friday, and Iâm going off the rails.
Just because he disagrees it doesnât mean he will DO anything about itâŚhe has proven that time and again based on his legislative record vs. his personal beliefs.
fuck you Tim Kaine
Thank you! You are exactly right. Itâs none of my fucking businessâno maleâs businessâwhat a woman does or says to her doctor, what kind of healthcare she receives, etc. The only time a man has any right is when the woman decides he should know. Husbands, boyfriends, partners, dads, brothers, friends etc. Outside of that, zilch. And, yeah, I, too, am tired of them being asked. I donât understand why this is such a brick wall in so many peopleâs heads. I do understand the personal choice of deciding youâre âpro-lifeâ (however one defines that), but itâs just that â a personal choice.
UmmmâŚhe did? Itâs right there in the article:
A spokesman for the Clinton-Kaine campaign acknowledged to the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday that Kaine is ânot personally for repeal of the Hyde Amendmentâ but is âcommitted to carrying out Secretary Clintonâs agenda.â
Damage control from the campaign, not Kaine personally â and after the interview.
EDITED TO ADD: I donât want to dislike him â I will have to vote for him to support HRC â but if he blows a simple answer like this, right out of the gate, then they will have to really work with him to make sure he doesnât repeat the foot in mouth.
So, is having multiple doctors handling balls an option? Asking for a friend.
Depends. Sometimes you can ask for a relay team of doctors none of whom have short fingers. Thatâs what my friend told me.
What about this are people in this thread missing? Tim Kaine is exactly the type of whatever-religion person we would want in government. His personal thoughts are and have always been separate from how he governs.
Are you mad at him for making his own personal choice on the issue? It has never - not once according to PP - affected his legislative actions, so what else are you angry about?
Thereâs something particularly refreshing about a religious person who is ABLE TO SEPARATE THEIR PERSONAL BELIEFS from their political and legislative dealings. That is what separation of church and state is and Tim Kaine is a wonderful example of that.
How did he blow it? He said he disagrees with her but is committed to carrying out Clintonâs agenda. And his personal beliefs on abortion have never impacted his political beliefs on abortion.
Iâm sorry but he DIDNâT âimpose his religious beliefsâ on anybody. Supposedly the GOOD thing about the Democratic Party is that we try and not insist on a purity test. The Hyde Amendment is law now. As long as he doesnât stand in the way of CHANGING the law there is no problemâŚright?
How about you take a fucking breath and do some research?
Because he just indicated that he supports withholding from poor women who he knows are dependent upon medicaid for their medical care, the means to pay for abortion when they need it. That is discriminatory â denies them their constitutional right to privacy and dominion over their own bodies. Of course, Iâll still vote for HRC and him on the ticket, but heâs not great on this issue and I am not going to pretend otherwise.
