Discussion: Three Top Miss America Org Officials Resign Over Vulgar Email Scandal

Let’s just cut out these sexist contests. Why isn’t there for men? The resignations are right.

There’s still a Miss America Pageant? Why?

And New Jersey officials are reviewing their Miss America Organization contract, in which the state still owes $4 million toward the cost of next year’s pageant.

States and cities shouldn’t be spending one dime on this ridiculous event.

Absolutely.

The revelation that the state is on the hook for support to a private for-profit entertainment company, of a decidedly obsolete sort, is amazing.

This is a shaky private enterprise whose primary function is to provide ego-boosts, and some profit (perhaps at taxpayer expense), to its owners/operators, and whom have a documented degraded view of the young woman from whom they profit.

If if can run its “pageants” on its own dime, and make a profit at it, then let it do so. This is free country (for businessmen, anyway) and everyone has the opportunity to make a buck. But the big networks should drop it (it aired on ABC this year). Let it go to cable.

I’m relieved to hear that all those horrible remarks came from people who have nothing but the utmost respect for the pageant participants and for women and general.

Relax, ladies. Nothing to see here. Go powder your noses, you silly things.

Why is there a Vogue magazine? Why all the makeup counters in the malls? Why do painters and photographers create works of art depicting beautiful women? Why would most men rather sit through a two hour romance movie featuring Selma Hayek than Kathy Bates? I agree, beauty pageants are anachronistic. But I fail to see any mystery in men being attracted to beautiful women. And yes, “beautiful” is subjective and judgmental and varies from society to society. It’s unfair, your genes shouldn’t control how men perceive you, your mind and soul and intellect and sense of humor and compassion and all your other non-physical qualities are what should be admired and loved. I get that. Most men get that. But damn, we do like looking at a beautiful woman. Miss Kitty is blonde and trim and thin and goes to the gym every day and poured into a pair of jeans turns every damned head on the street. And I like that. Testosterone is a curse, but the day I don’t like taking in the beauty of a physically attractive woman just bury me.
