Discussion for article #233807
It is with some surprise that I have heard nary a peep from the sagacious wingoshere about the leadership virtues of Putin lately…the blogs and airwaves were full of this content only a scant few weeks ago…but it’s early yet for them to try and rationalize and grandstand about the legitimate concern and outrage by Russians over Putin’s latest act against his own people.
Considering Putie’s winger fanboys, if I was the Speaker I wouldn’t be taking any evening strolls around Capitol Hill…
I thought this article was about the memorial of Nemtsov. I you want this to be about Putin you might want to keep in mind that he has 85% approval ratings in Russia. That compares to the 1% Nemtsov had before he was killed. And yes, Putin has that level off approval because of his quite remarkable leadership skills. Before his death Nemtsov was politically irrelevant in Russia, his movement’s only relevant support came from western governments. That does not impress the Russian people.
It is extremely unlikely that Putin had anything to do with this killing. Indeed Nemtsov alive with his growing irrelevance and unpopularity was to Putin’s favor as another demonstration of the dominance of his leadership. There is a small chance that in death Nemtsov’s reputation may grow some with his new status as a martyr.
Concerning their governments’ Ukraine policies mainstream the American press has no more dissent in it than does the Russian press . So on freedom of press, at least concerning the Ukrainian mess, it is USA-0 and RF-0.
You think what you want, I’ll do the same. Thanks for the insights
Guiliani will be on Fox this week positively gushing about Putin’s leadership skills. He will probably say something along these lines, as he did a few months ago: “Putin wants something done. BANG! It gets done. All he has to say to his aides is ‘If only someone would rid me of this Nemtsov’… And they execute his order. It happens. Just like that. Now THAT’S a leader.”
With Putin saying he would personally lead the investigation into Nemtsov’s killing what could possibly go wrong. He will definitely find another enemy of the state (Putin is the state) responsible and have him executed as well.
By the way, Toivo, are you paid well to post here?
“If you want this to be about Putin you might want to keep in mind that he has 85% approval ratings in Russia.” This sentence makes me physically ill. The only reason he has that approval is because of all his lies and control of the media. So many people totally fooled by him. It makes me sad and sick.
No doubt Putin will earnestly pursue the killers of his chief political rival… Maybe even with twice the earnestness of OJ Simpson who vowed to spend the rest of his life to find Nicole Simpson and Ron Brown’s killer(s).
…or this from Naked Gun when the cop (played by OJ Simpson ironically) was shot 57 times with no vital organ struck, police detective Frank Drebin said: “Wilma, we will not rest one minute until we find the scum that did this to your husband. Now let’s go get something to eat,”
Also, Russians are scared shitless to oppose the ruthless (and probably sociopathic) Putin because he has shown he is without inhibition in maintaining his power.
