Discussion: Thom Tillis Traditional Voters Hispanics African Americans

Discussion for article #223983

It sure doesn’t sound to me like he was talking about people born in N.C. Sounds more like minorities versus whites.

Tillis was referring to North Carolinians who have been in the state for a few generations, according to the state lawmaker’s campaign.

Sure he was… right. (wink wink)

It sounds like the idea of relying on an aging population of White, ignorant, racist cretins as the base support for an anachronistic political ideology bred in the 17th century, isn’t going to be the salvation for the increasingly fractured Conservative agenda.

No doubt, he was referring to the Catawba and Cherokee nations.

He specifically referred to “the traditional population of NC and the United States.” There’s no way to spin it to mean some group of people in NC alone.

Willis can utter ‘African-Americans’

He can mention ‘Hispanics’

Then he dogwhistles ‘traditional’.

Unnecessary, given the context.
But ®s simply can’t help themselves.
Racist gotta’ be racist.

Gonna’ be a bitch when those unregistered non-traditional voters-- become part of the NC voting demographic.

What did he say that was racist? What he said was factually accurate. The “traditional” or white if you prefer are become a less dominate percentage of the voting population. Therefore, according to Tillis, the GOP needs to find away to reach out to Hispanics and black voters.

If this is the best the Kay Hagan, Democratic Party, media, left wing, etc… opposition research can dig up, the Tillis is going to cruise in November.

This isn’t just another free-standing example of abject stupidity. The GOTP is addicted to racism. They simply can’t help themselves. Let’s not forget the odious TV ads the late (un)lamented Jesse Helms threw up to knock back challengers of color. So it ain’t a Y2K thang: The history is long, deep, and wide.

Got a ranch you want to bet on that, partner?

And Tillis (born in Jacksonville, Florida) is one of those people who came to NC in the past couple decades, not part of his “traditional” population either.

As someone whose family goes back to the mid-1700s in present day Caldwell County, carpetbaggers like Tillis, Pat McCrory (born in Ohio), and Virginia Foxx (born in Brooklyn) need to all go back where they came from and quit ruining my state.

See, “traditionally,” in the good ol’ days, slaves counted as 1/5 of “traditional” white citizens. Old times there are not forgotten.

Oh, so he means Native Americans.

You do understand there is no population that is traditional. You can do things that are traditional, but people cannot be traditional. And frankly the only population that is native to North Carolina isn’t white.

Next what the hell does Hagan’s oppo research have to do with this? This article wasn’t released by Hagan nor does the news come out Hagan’s camp.

“In 2010 the percentage of blacks in North Carolina was 21.48 percent while in 2000 the percentage was 21.59 percent.”

Hmm, it appears he was factually INACCURATE with that part of his statement. And of course there is that pesky fact that many, if not most, of those black voters have lived in NC for their entire lives…which makes them pretty traditional NC voters, too.

So that is two rather glaring inaccuracies right off the bat.

I could go off about the obvious dogwhistling he is using in this interview, but given your history, I have little doubt that you will argue that you didn’t hear any dog whistles…despite the gleeful look and drool on your face when you saw this article pop up…like it was whistling to you.

What else would you expect from a Republican? He’s playing the race card for all it’s worth!

Jeff Foxworthy made famous the insinuation “you might be a redneck,” as in “If you ever cut your grass and found a car, you might be a redneck.”

Well, if you exclaim “What did he say that was racist?” you might be a racist.

Particularly if following that up with the moronic comment of “The ‘traditional’ or white if you prefer…” as if there haven’t been other races living in North Carolina for generations who have their own tradition.

Yeah, the GOP sure does need to find a way to reach out to Hispanics and black voters, and this is a prime example of Republican outreach. That’s why Bobby Jindal referred to them as the Party of Stupid.

Yeah, native Art Pope can ruin it all by himself; he doesn’t need help from outsiders!
