“middle-income earners would see a massive tax hike, averaging $6,200, because of the elimination of the tax credits for insurance plans”
I am surprised the average is a low $6200. I am middle income, family of 3, and paid upwards of $20K per year for medical insurance before ACA. Of course, I used a PPO instead of a HMO, and the latter would have been less expensive.
So upper incomes get a tax cut but we all have to pay more for uncompensated care at community hospitals. Death panels without explicitly calling them that.
It’s a two-for-one deal: You lose the $6200 and you then have to shop for insurance, assuming you can get it, on your own, at potentially much higher prices. Lose/lose for the unwashed masses, win/win for the fraction of a percent. The only mystery is why anyone would possibly be surprised by this.
So Obamacare repeal is really just the same old GOP agenda: tax cuts for the rich paid for by screwing the poor. In this case, health care is taken away, and many will die from a lack of medical care so the very rich can get money they don’t need. Why aren’t the Democrats saying this all the time?
“For instance, a vast majority (94 percent) of middle-income households (making between $52,000 and $89,000) do see a small tax cut that averages around $110…”
Crusts for the 94%.
Not even a whole loaf of bread, but plenty of awkward circuses when Trump voters find out how much health care they can buy for $110.
I was once offered a $100 a year raise and was so insulted I resigned…and found a much better job which paid considerably more. So this ObamaCare repeal might not be as bad a thing after all.
When the middle class realizes how they are being offered peanuts ($110 a year…if not seeing a huuuge tax increase of over $6,2000 a year) compared to the hundreds of thousands of dollars that millionairea will get in tax breaks, shit is going to hit the fan in the Midterms.
I’d love to be at the Trump rally when Donald hands out those $110 checks when the peasants were expecting the goose to lay a golden egg for them. It might be the abrupt end of those GOP Thank You Rallies. Who does an extra victory lap around the farm auction arena expecting others to thank him for conning them?
It’s like our Democratic leadership forgot what wonderful things FDR offered working Americans and who they were. It’s amazing how lame the party became when it stopped being liberal after LBJ and Carter. It’s like Clinton buried Hubert Humphrey and lost his soul to the Mythical Middle of the Road in the process.
Either you are committed to driving full speed ahead as a progressive or you are just a drag on everyone who works for a living in this country. That is truth. And it must be told loudly and clearly.
It’s just astounding to me that this is just finally being discussed. The subsidies that allow 10 Million Americans to finally have the ability to afford health insurance are completely paid for by a very small tax on the capital gains of those individuals making more than $200,000/year or couples making more than $250,000 and that has been where all the bitterness and rage against the ACA has originated. The top 1% control so much of the nations wealth that just a small tax on their unearned income completely pays for the subsidies. Those 1% have enormous power to send out a negative message against the ACA and that is what they succeeded in doing because this simple issue was never explained adequately to the American people. So many think that their income tax is paying for “those” people to have health care when in fact not many of us make that kind of money.
This piece at Vox speak to part of the issue.
Summed up as “I guess I thought that, you know, he would not do this”
They know Trump is a liar, vote for him anyway, and hope a flip-flop would flip their way.
Why Obamacare enrollees voted for Trump
In Whitley County, Kentucky, the uninsured rate declined 60 percent under Obamacare. So why did 82 percent of voters there support Donald Trump?

Those fucks probably have 10 times that much money or more just sitting around doing nothing with it…god damn!
Why is it rarely discussed that strict ACA repeal, which can be done under reconciliation, will severely damage Medicare fiscal stability? This is about more than the individual insurance market. This will probably happen by the end of January. Shouldn’t Medicare recipients (present and future) hear about it?
Bingo.
Does anyone really think they gave a hoot about the individual mandate? Or that some peopel might have to change Doctors?
This is why the GOP is so anxious to repel before they have any idea what they are goign to replace it with.
REPEAL ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT NEW TAXES ON THE WELL HEELED.
Ouch. I missed the subsidy only aspect. Thanks for your diplomatic response.
