Discussion: Third GOP Senator Rescinds His Support For Roy Moore Over Allegations

Someone explain to me what difference this makes? Are they gonna shun him when he appears on the floor to be sworn in? Are they not gonna let him sit at their lunch table? Are they gonna put his chair out in the hall like a time out?

I really don’t get why the support thing is such a big deal, when it has no known impact and the guy is still gonna take the seat and vote the way he feels like. It’ll all blow over once McConnell says it will.

I’m not impressed.

And yet they all support Trump in spite of the fact that he has far worse allegations against him.

More bad news must be about to hit. Cassidy is from Louisiana, home of Huey Long who famously said that “The only thing that will defeat me is being caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.”

Or already has in the form of internal polling…

Polling in Alabama, as the story hit, showed that Moore had lot his double-digit led and the race was a toss-up.

Hopefully this is a prequel to what will happen with Trump. Republicans supported this guy through his misogyny, homophobia, and bigotry until it finally became a bridge to far. He’s slowly, too slowly for my taste, hemorrhaging support and becoming too toxic for all but the most rancid.

I can see a similar arc for Trump as his collusion becomes very obvious for all to see.

Ooooo…what a courageous stance…this is the same representative that tried to get a disastrous healthcare bill through the Senate knowing thousands ,millions of people would be put at risk…needlessly.is there any action beyond "symbolic " that interests these pikers?

A similar thing occurred when Jason Chaffetz “unliked” Trump after the Access Hollywood tape; the couldn’t look his daughter in the eye bit.

Following the example of the Olympic Games where they name a technique after its athlete innovator, for example, the high jump’s, “Fosbury Flop”, I propose that the temporary display of disapprobation of Republican office holders when one their own is found to have delved into the depths of miscreancy be termed,

The “Chaffetz Chafe”

The display of annoyance by Bill Cassidy indicates he is invoking the Chaffetz Chafe.

That you thought Moore was fit for office in the first place shows your judgment is worthless. You are just running for cover now that it is clear you endorsed a pervert and are worried it might reflect badly on you.

At least Sen. Corker rightly said Moore was unfit for office even before the news of him being a pervert and going after underage girls came to light.

withdrawing support means nothing if they don’t take any action. Are they helping to find a replacement? Will they make calls to Alabamans to work to defeat him? Will they revolt if Moore wins and McConnell tries to seat him?

I think the answer is a resounding HELL NO! These are good party men. They have weighted whatever their personal and/or political interests against supporting this molester, and figured they better show some decent response to this outrageous situation.

Given the behavior of Republican Senators during the Obama and tRump Years, I am not impressed by them acting like decent humans for once.

If they were serious they would campaign for Jones, urging Republican voters to take action against Moore.

If I could propose a modification of this definition. Because the temporary display of disapprobation was followed by Chaffetz’ all in participation in whatever strong arming and pressuring of FBI Director Comey was engineered by Rudy Giuliani’s moles in the NYC FBI Office to force him to write a letter to Chaffetz as Chair of the House Oversight Committee about the Anthony Weiner laptop with some potential HRC emails, which Chaffetz promptly made public to help Donald Trump. Perhaps it merits a footnote in the rule book definition of this type of flip flop.
@antisachetdethe I dont know how to say this, but as encouraging as your linked article on Alabama polling is (compared to Moore still having a commanding lead) it is still depressing. People who have spent the entire time since the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts whining about Southern Stereotypes can’t have it both ways.

Roy Moore was never fit for office. The guy has been thrown off the AL Supreme Court TWICE for placing his personal beliefs ahead of the LAW. Toss in his foundation paying him over $1M over the years. Now add to it his predatory criminality. This guy should have been in jail years ago.

I wondered how he got away with it, because you know, people HAD to know. The more that comes out about this guy, the more corrupt we see the system is in God-fearing Alabama. One of his former co-workers came forward and stated that they all knew he was preying on teenage girls. The sad thing is SHE said everyone thought it was strange. STRANGE?? They had a pedophile working in the DA’s Office and did nothing. Makes you wonder how many cases that office brought against other pedophiles during the Moore Years? I read in one AL.com article that there are allegations that the local police threatened one family for telling Moore to back off their child. This may go beyond Moore, and shake up some people.

Not if they continue to use the Bible as their defense in a State where the Bible supersedes all.

Tuesday will tell alot. If women are as pissed about this as they say they are, they will turn out in droves and elect the Democrat. If younger men are as pissed about this as they say they are, considering their sisters, their wives and their daughters, they will turn out in droves and elect the Democrat.

If it’s all lip service, Moore will be sworn in post-haste.

'Bama wimmens seem to still have his back because he’s not a Democrat nor is he Hillary.

One liddle ol’ gal says she said she would “absolutely” be voting for Mr. Jones, but she was not so sure about her neighbors. Other liddle ol’ gal says “This all happened many years ago, correct? I honestly think we’re paying too much attention to it.
