Discussion: These 5 Democrats Will Serve On The Benghazi Committee

It was the spineless rants from progressives like you that caused the Democrats to lose and lose big in 2010.

Want the Republicans to win in November? Keep on calling the Democrats spineless, it will just drive down turnout and help Republicans win.

As I’ve posted, Alan Grayson is a narcissist. What purporse would it serve to add yet ANOTHER narcissist to a panel with seven narcissist already on it?

FFS, Cummings is leagues better than Grayson, Cummings was on one of the Benghazi panels. As a matter of fact, he was on the same panel with Asshole Issa when Issa cut his mic. We get Cummings and four other competent Democrats, yet you’re whining because your fee fees are hurt because Grayson got rejected. GET OVER IT!!!

So are you surmising that Cummings isn’t a fighter? Duckworth isn’t a fighter?

I have to agree to a point. That point being that the GOP has a huge hard-on to do good where they messed up when they tried to impeach clinton. Other than that they dont have shit to hang on obama.

I totally understand why folks want Grayson on this panel. He is great at calling out the Teapublicans using their own shameless hyperbole. The danger in that is that he sometimes looks as over the top as people like Steve King and Michelle Bachmann. He is an easy target to paint as a liberal buffoon–and I say that as someone who agrees with almost everything that comes out of his mouth.

You are right, but I think it’s a convenient way to kill 3 birds with one stone:

  1. Impeach Obama for red meat points with the base.
  2. Tar Hillary and let the propaganda arm saturate the airwaves with anti-Hillary negativity just in time for 2016 campaign season.
  3. Grind the work of Congress to an absolute halt, rendering Obama unable to get anything else accomplished.

Bullshit.
Call people all the names you want, the Dems had one chance to declare this an illegitimate witch hunt and passed. No one will care that the “strong” Democrats made good points - It’s a kangaroo court, the outcome is decided already.

Agreed. Grayson would’ve been great for progressives, but his smug delivery and often disheveled appearance may not have been so great for TV.

I’m not so sure they are thinking about the Clinton impeachment much. Look at the govt shutdown. It was a disaster for them in the Clinton years, but they pulled the trigger anyway.
Of course they don’t have anything to hang on Obama. But they’ll find something and they’ll send their PR people out to the Sunday shows and FoxNews will take care of the rest.
When the House votes to impeach (and they will), approximately 30% of the public will approve. Because they’ll buy whatever Fox and the rest are selling. No matter what.

It may be a mistake to even participate at all (and contrary to what many people are saying, Alan Grayson would have been just as useless as the five that are in there now, given the committee’s rules)
But really there aren’t any good options for the Democrats here, the Republicans are going to impeach Obama in the House no matter what the Democrats do or do not do…
At least they dragged their feet on it long enough to get the centrist media to internalize that this really is a partisan witch-hunt that shouldn’t be taking place.

A quick historical note: the reason the Korean War was a United Nations action was because the Russians boycotted the meeting. If the Dems were to boycott the new Benghazi hearings they would be giving the stage to the Republicans-- and the Repubs do know how to put on a really really good show.

I agree. Cummings won’t be messed with, that’s for sure.

Do you really believe that Dems declaring it an illegitimate witchhunt would somehow make it so with the MSM and the American people? Do you really think the media would be sure to remind the public that Democrats arent participating because they think this is a farce and these questions have already been answered? It’s far more likely that clips would be shown of the committee without any context, without the viewers knowing it’s an all Republican panel. High-minded arguments don’t work with mainstream America, I wish liberals would figure that out.

Absolutely. These are truly some of the finest people we have. And Dog knows Elijah Cummings has had a LOT of experience with “teh crazy” so he can deflect B.S. very well.

There’s a court saying, “Never pass up an opportunity to make your case,” and the Democrats have an excellent opportunity to make their case.

And they have an even better opportunity with five professionals who were not only part of previous Benghazi probes, but the RANKING member of Oversight. Passing on this committee would only enable Republicans to harass the heck out of witnesses, and create sound bites for the media to latch on with NO pushback from Democrats being absent on the committee. Also the media would push the RW meme hard, with no context because again, there would be no Democrats on the panel. Not that they won’t push the RW meme anyways, but with Cummings and Duckworth on the panel, they won’t be taken lightly and they won’t be pushed around, especially Cummings. Do I need to mention his reaction of Asshole Issa cutting his mic again?

If the House wants to impeach Obama, they can do so. Didn’t help them when they impeached Obama. Approval ratings for Clinton soared and Gingrich ultimately lost his job.

Nobody can impeach Clinton. She’s not Sec. of State any more. The purpose of an impeachment is to remove somebody from office. Hard to do that when the person isn’t in office.

I feel sorry for your digestive tract.

Republicans started this farce because they need something to drive out their voters this year…and their cupboard is bare. They have nothing else to go to. Not healthcare, not jobs…nothing but failed conspiracy theories…that already played heavily in them losing the last election. Looking at it without a partisan hat on, and there is nothing here that marks this as a good campaign strategy.

And while republicans would absolutely love to impeach Obama, I agree…they are not going down that path in a crucial midterm election year without overwhelming public support. Especially when they are the minority in the Senate. They know fully well what happened to them when the started the Clinton impeachments…they got their collective asses handed to them in the midterms. Nothing would fire up the Dem base and indys to vote Dem than trying to impeach Obama over a non issue. And Benghazi really doesn’t captivate the American people. Even worse for republicans, they are trying to shift horses in midstream. They have spent far too much time, effort and money trying to go after Obamacare this year (remember the shutdown? that wasn’t about Benghazi). They are trying to create a smoke screen while the completely drop Obamacare…because the polling is not only shifting favorably…its shifting quite quickly.

Any discussion of impeachment will only come about after the midterms, and only if they take the Senate. And personally, I am not even convinced they will go after it then without, again, overwhelming public support. And that isn’t there.

Absolutely. And does anyone believe every single Republican wouldn’t be claiming that Democrats aren’t participating because they’re scared, because they’re trying to hide the president and HRC’s culpability?

Cummings released entire transcripts when Issa tried to release self serving excerpts. Cummings played that very well, and he’s definitely no pushover.

No one ever said this won’t be a kangaroo court, but it would have been more of one without any Dems there to speak up.
