Politics are so weird.
You lose probably the most important vote for the future direction of the country by 432-202âŚthen survive a no-confidence by 325-306 the next day.
Then again, we have McTurtleâŚ
Like Trumpâs election, which it previewed, the Brexit vote was simply an inchoate cry, the real distress of people excluded from the system, or who feel excluded, being preyed upon by charlatans and con men. At least some of those conned-a minority, but enough to tip the scales-now see they were sold a bill of goods.
She survived because no one wants her job. Canât blame them, reallyâŚ
Jeremy Corbin is such a dumb, dumb fuck. No way that he was going to being down May, even some of his own members donât trust him near 10 downing street. (he lost the ex-Labor independents).
He would have been much better off to have spent a few days trying to pin May down on her red lines, and then lodged the no-confidence vote if she did not attempt to compromise by Monday (when Plan B is due) in favor of staying in the customâs union/âNorway soft brexitâ. He might have gotten Torys who fear a non-deal Brexit enough to rebel and trigger a new election.
But the dumb-ass left wing Brexit supporting Wind bag canât get out of the way of helping May stay in power as she destroys England.
Jeremy Corbyn really wants her job. But his position on Brexit (mend it, donât end it) seems to make him a decidedly poorly positioned challenger given that Brexit is for obvious reasons the dominant issue. As if a Dem challenger to Trump were urging that we should have a wall but made of brick not cement.
Leaving the EU is one of the dumbest things the Brits could do, but that they are leaving speaks volumes for the arrogance and ignorance of the bankers and business leaders in London who forgot that the folks outside the capitol have a vote and need to share in the profits generated by the EU.
Jeremy Corbyn is like if we put Ralph Nader in charge of the Democratic Party. Or a Nader-Kucinich hybrid. Or⌠I donât know what, but itâs just breathtakingly incompetent.
It is a real fâed up dilemma -to hear some insightful Brits tell it - all of the ambitious, creative energetic young and middle age Brits with skills and the ability to keep Britain running along in a competitive manner - they wanted no part of Brexit ⌠they look at it as stupid xenophobic rubbish that destroys the only viable way forward for Britain.
Many of these folks - who might be viewed as Britainâs brightest and best hopes for the future are furious - and feel totally screwed by a portion of their country that they sees as fat, old (or old in their thinking), pig-ignorant and stupid ⌠and they see Theresa May as the Queen of the stupids.
Is there a rule on how often no-confidence votes can be held? Or is that just the intra-party ones? Because this could give May some breathing space to do the right thing.
So sheâs still going to be around to take all the blame
Wasnât this expect? I guess Labour thought maybe they could pick off DUP to force an election. There is no way Conservatives would vote for no confidence because they donât want a repeat of 2017. What Conservative MP would think they could gain seats in this climate? Iâm not even sure what Labourâs plan is? Having an election right before the UK is kicked out of the EU seems like bad timing.
It seems like the deal was sunk by right-wing headbangers who will accept nothing less than war with France, but her government was saved by the same right-wing headbangers because they donât want to face an election. Somehow, they think a deal can be created which somehow punishes Europe by the breakup.
I was trying to think of who the American equivalent would be, its not Bernie Sanders, and damn, I think you have gotten it. a Combo of Naderâs ego and Kucinichâs far far left and wacky policy proposals.
It is hard to find a major politician who so dumb (and ill prepaired) that he will stand by looking solemnly as Palestinians lay a wreath at a monument to the terrorists who planned and executed the murder of Israeli Athletes and a German police officer at Munich in 1972. see https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-45196409
âGood luck to the representatives of the nation who have to implement something that doesnât exist,â Macron said.
Best line of the week. Perhaps the Unicorn Party can form a government.
You gotta love all those Cons that forced a bill of goods on the people of Britain and then high tailed it around Europe (and tried in the US) to tout what a great thing it isâŚNOW when it is shown as the farce it always WAS they vote âno confidenceâ or pretend âIt wasnât ME!â Cowards and bullies, the lot of them.
remarkable.
I lost a bet over that. $100.00
lady got spunk,I give that to her
Itâs time for the Extremely Silly Party to flex its muscle. They can hardly do worse.
The only way forward with brexit is to not do brexit. Its amazing how much pain they are putting themselves through when its the only sane choice.
Generally Brits do not do stupid, and they recognize it easily⌠how they ever got conned into leaving the EU is out of character IMO
