For some reason, whenever I hear of “The Blaze” this comes to mind…
Blaze a blaze Galang a lang a lang lang
Purple Haze Galang a lang a lang lang

I’ve always thought that The Blaze would have been the perfect name for the daily in Rock Ridge.
Hope he doesn’t declare his pizza joint a church and remembers to pay his taxes!!
Damn, right wing martyrdom is not a bad gig, is it?
For $140K in one day, I think it’s probably more profitable than being a talk show host or a member of Congress.
This was the plan all along: owners of an already-failing business intentionally say something stupidly bigoted, claim victim-hood from the backlash, wait for the "donations to roll in, then retire to Belize… Next we see of Kevin O’Connor, he’ll be on a beach with a margarita in one hand and his new (underage) “girlfriend” in the other…
I might mention too, as many here will already know, this 140,000 is just the beginning…the gofund site has only been up for roughly 24 hours, imagine how big that number will be in a week or so.
Does the total show pledges, or actual cash transfers that have cleared the bank?
Not sure how it works to be honest.
If it is pledges, would be interesting to see how many actually go through.
Just pledges at this point, but some of the money is probably already there via bank transfer. And people that post their name and a $50 pledge and say they are doing it for God and Jesus are probably not going to back out. But you never know.
By the way, gofundme dot com takes about a 5% “slice of the pie”.
That was my first thought. Create fake shop. Create fake controversy and protesters. Profit!
When you are eventually exposed, you simply say that it was an independently produced, unconventionally distributed, viewer-supported reality TV show.
I’ll tell you, if I weren’t so damned honest I’d figure a way to do something similar.
Two thoughts…
The owners of this pizza place are Irish and unaware or have forgotten that less than a hundred years ago “better establishments” had signs up saying, “Dogs and Irish Catholics are not allowed!”
This $140k is probably more than the shop cleared in the past two years, but they probably won’t declare or pay tax on it either.
Nice scam. Think I’ll fork over a few hundred to rent a hole in the wall downtown, sell a few pizzas, then post a sign “We don’t welcome no homos.” Close down, citing the backlash, and wait for the real dough to roll in.
Yeah, we’ll see him on House Hunters International looking for the perfect beach front dwelling …
How many times has this happened? It certainly seems like a trend, and one that these people may have been trying to exploit.
$140,000? Really? How long would it take them to make that kind of money in a small pizza shop? And what does this go to? Operating expenses? Straight in their pockets?
His reason for shutting down? Too many phone calls to differentiate between real orders. Give me a break. He’s the one who piped up and made himself a target in the first place.
Fully expect more stories like this to keep happening, looking for a handout because they are persecuted Christians.
More religious welfare. There is something very fishy about this, I’m thinking this dude knew exactly what he was doing by appealing to the wingnuts, they are the biggest suckers on the planet.
Now, Memories Pizza is really despised.
It would not cater to Methodists or the Irish.
More than once I’ve spent five minutes or so wondering about the phrasing I would use if I set up a web site to solicit donations to prevent abortions.
