Discussion: The Zombie Rises: Senate Moves To Insert O'Care Mandate Repeal In Tax Bill

My guess is that this will only motivate more people to oppose and protest against this already very unpopular bill. Perhaps Senate Republicans can add another clause to their tax bill that mandates the murdering of kittens. That should help it pass by even a larger margin.

The most amazing thing about this whole process is that some GOP reps are basically admitting that the real (sole?) purpose of this tax cut is to appease their wealthy donors. The Republicans aren’t even pretending that the tax cuts or mandate repeal will serve any other purpose.

To anyone paying any attention at all, this proves the R party does not give a flying fuck for We The People.

They’re Ferengi.

That’s your money, conservative voters, and it isn’t going back to you.

Your “fiscal conservative” Congressman wants to give it to millionaires, and tack on another trillion dollars, which they’ll just add to the debt.

So, besides a higher debt payment you have to make, what do you get? More expensive and more limited health care.

This, Republicans say, will make the economy hum.

Was this the church shooting? Are we confusing mass shootings? So many. So hard to keep track.

There’s an easy way to counter this. The analogy to car insurance is plain. We have to have it on our cars in order to drive them. It ain’t optional, even though most people don’t use it. Risk has to be spread out in this way. Otherwise, it’s not really insurance. But will the Dems be able to explain this? Hope so.

“This is totally different from health care,” Kennedy said after meeting with his fellow Republicans. “Nobody is standing up and saying, ‘If you do this, I’m not going to vote for the bill.’ Everyone is trying to get to yes.”

Okay. I’m confused - is Kennedy truly this stupid, or does he think this kind of bafflegab will convince his listeners that his brand of shit really is shoe polish? The craven intent of the health care scam they’ve been trying to sell has been evident for months now, and yet by folding it into the “tax reform” package, which, not surprisingly, has the same end goal, it becomes “totally different”??!! Sure thing, Senator. Persistent fuckers, aren’t they?

To follow through on your analogy, what the GOP is proposing is that they make car insurance optional. Which because A) a much larger number of people aren’t covered, making the chances that any given claim more expensive, and B) because car insurance companies are selling fewer plans, they inevitably have to make up for the lost revenue stream…rates for everyone go way up.

Actually, my take is, he thinks his fellow republican lawmakers are that stupid. Basically, they were too dumb to realize that their various attempts at healthcare were all about tax cutting, so that now, by actually calling it “TAX CUT” they will finally figure it out.

I love the smell of GOP desperation in the morning…it smells like…VICTORY!! Not really, but they are scrambling to prove that they can pass something, anything. They are attempting to ignore mathematics, and hoping that their propaganda will push this over the top. Meanwhile, the House and Senate versions are very far apart. My gut tells me that this “tax reform” will be as successful as the ACA repeal. (Or so I desperately hope.)

@daveyjones64 If you’re right, they’re in worse shape than I thought - not to mention the rest of us.

Not to mention layoffs in the Healthcare industry. Say goodbye to more rural hospitals. I also wonder how this will effect all the “urgent care” facilities sprouting up like Starbucks, and now which some insurance companies insist that policy holders use first.

No, unfortunately. But that’s not on the Dems. It’s the audience they’d be speaking to. One of the biggest mistakes Democrats make is that they don’t understand that the people who need to understand these kinds of things will be lost to any tiny bit of nuance the minute they begin to explain the “why” of something. All that really needs to be said, and repeated over and over again is “Republicans raised your premiums”. If they blame Obamacare when they see what’s now being taken out of their paychecks, just say “No, Republicans did that”. If someone wants to know the details of why, they’ll come to you. It’s a sad state of affairs, but easy soundbites win out these days.

And they wonder why in the polls their approval numbers hover around 15%…near half those of trump. The wonder of it all is they keep getting reelected.

This puts me in mind of all those times Republicans tried to share “Obamacare Horror Stories.” The stories presented didn’t pan out, the media disproved some, and when some Republicans asked for people to share their Ocare stories the majority of stories shared were positive ones.

We need to face the fact that politics has become the New Religion.
