Discussion: The Weird Rhythm Of The Christine Blasey Ford Hearing

Chuck Grassley is really just coming off as a grumpy old man who has a grudge against the world. Good lord he looks bad at this.

I can’t legally say in public what I want to happen to Chuck Grassley, Mitch McConnell, Brett Kavanaugh, and the rest of their foul ilk.

This is quickly developing into a worst case scenario for Republicans.

Kavanaugh has to testify after this, and what possible testimony can he give to mitigate hers? Her statement is that he was profoundly drunk at the time, so if he claims he doesn’t recall, or denies it happened the natural question is, “Were you too drunk to remember…” His only defense would be to say he was never that drunk but there are dozens of people willing to say that he did drink with regularity.

The only thing that makes sense is that the GOP was banking on her not being willing to testify, or breaking down under questioning, and that was a hell of a gamble to take under the circumstances. One that has clearly backfired.

The choppiness of the R line of questioning isn’t doing them any favors. Dr. Ford seems to be handling the awkwardness well.

A comment on Reddit about Mitchell’s questioning:

“You dislike brussel sprouts, correct?”

“That is correct.”

“But you like food, cooking, and the like?”

“Sure”

“You’ve eaten brussel sprouts at Thanksgiving dinner haven’t you?”

“Yes, but that’s because I didn’t want to be rude”

“I see”

Is this next? That’s basically where we’re at, right? In a hearing about sexual assault? Cool.

What is the huge hurry here? Surely the Republican judge pickers have a nice, long list of potential candidates. Is this

  1. We are white men and we want this white man on the Court and nobody is going to tell us any different because we are beyond stubborn, even if it hurts our party’s election chances
  2. Every other candidate on our list is a white guy who did his share of raping (I guess Gorsuch with the single exception?) so it would be a waste of time for us to play that game
  3. We believe the Dems will take the Senate and, with full justification thanks to Garland, refuse to hold any hearings for Kavanaugh or any other candidate Trump nominates until the voters have their say in 2020

All 3 apply.

I can’t legally endorse those plans, but I do.

Grassley seems to be making the point that this is the best investigation that could be done given how late in the process this allegation surfaced. Which ignores the fact that the schedule is solely driven by political calculations. Waiting for one of the Democrats to call him out on how bogus this is.

I’m not watching the inquisition, but it appears Dr. Ford is credible. That means Kavanaugh is toast.

I read before that one of the next in line for confirmation is a women but of course she never intimated that she would shield the potus from facing justice like Kavanaugh has.

She is completely credible. Unlike the Republicans old white men who are hiding behind petticoat other woman to interrogate a credible witness. You’re looking pretty dang bad Republicans. Colin the FBI now you old farts. You have learned nothing from your experience with Anita Hill don’t care how you tried to change the stage you still come back to the same mentality old white man of losing their white superiority you are incredibly Berriste sing to my race. And Oren Hatch I could go into your scenario and what you said about would listen to me teaching the young women seriously tell us about it tell us about your temple marriage tell us about how many wives a man can have an old women can only have one husband tell us all about your secret names that you’re given in your temple marriage is you can know their name and the women cannot know your secret secret name and through the veil you’ll come That you feel worthy of being your wife in the hereafter you are one sick old man and you’re sick religion based in keeping women down and out. No wonder Mormon women per capita are the highest anti-depressant users in our country more men and women I’m sure that’s a listen you want to pass on to your young granddaughters the young women in your church.

Grassley has interrupted Miller and the three female senators who have spoken so far. He did not interrupt any of the male senators.

Rachell Mitchell is very annoying.

OMG. Now the ringer prosecutor is poking holes in Ford’s claim that she has a fear of flying, and wanted to deposed in CA, not DC. Yet she does grudgingly fly, like many of us do (I hate to fly because I am not driving the missle, and there is always someone puking in front of me getting me sick… but I do it on occasion). I predict this will be an irrelevant barb on Fox News for the next week.

This is a travesty. At least Sen. Whitehouse blasted away at the lack of a FBI investigation, or other witnesses in the room.

Mitchell’s air of faux concern is grating.

And she needs to see a few astute gay men about her hair and wardrobe—talk about disasters!

Has anyone informed the Dementia Ward the location of a certain Senator.

“The Weird Rhythm” is actually the crest of the political tsunami that will sweep
the scum bag R-tribe into the dust bin of history. We would have hearing like this for the last two years is Dems were in power in only 1 chamber. R-tribe have bottled up the public airing of so many issues and abused the public airing function for purely political reasons- BENGHAZI BENGHAZI BENGHAZI.
IMO this day and Dr Ford’s testimony will be as big or bigger in the public eye as the "cancer on your presidency’ moment with John Dean.
VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO!
