What a bullshit headline. What happened is the Republicans KILLED DACA. The headline makes it sound like they really, really wanted to but just couldn’t quite get there.
Exactly. Put the blame where it belongs. There was never a way for Dems to get anything on DACA through the Senate, let alone the House. McConnell going back on his word didn’t help either. It was always intentional that Republicans would block any real path for these Dreamers without some odious crap attached to the legislation. To pretend otherwise is journalistic malpractice.
Can someone explain why E-Verify is controversial? Who doesn’t like this? R’s? D’s?
The way to get illegal immigration to voluntarily halt is to require EMPLOYERS to only hire legal US Citizens. How is this a bad thing? Unfortunately it appears that E-Verify is NOT hooked in to the H1b-H2b visa system, this would need to be resolved, but hardly seems like an impossible hurdle.
American businessmen like their cheap, obedient labor just fine.

I am afraid that headline (on a TPM article) will carry the day with the public because it will be repeated over and over again… Far too many in the press still don’t get it. The Republicans are a positively evil party. They have no socially redeeming qualities but the Press continues to treat them like theirs is just one of two slightly different voices.

I think after all the red meat has been cast a fix for DACA is a sure thing. Trump and hos GOP’ers are in theater mode but actually ending DACA and deporting 700K is really bad politics. Trump’s got a safety net in the decision of the Judges but it’s temporary. As soon as kicking these kids out gets the all clear everyone’s going to get serious. The numbers are against doing that and the GOP is aware that it will be standing on dangerous ground coming November. DACA assholery will make that ground all the more dangerous. But for now they feed the base.
In the hopefully soon forthcoming Great Removal, I pray Cotton is whisked away by flying monkeys.

There never was one. That was yak. There was a media that reported factually and a side show of journals like The National Review that pained pictures and bitched about bias in the facts. The GOP needed a “News Shop” if was to survive and along came an immigrant to make it happen.
