If the Democrats had told people they aren’t really feeling the economic pain they’re feeling they would have done even worse than they did. The problem began six years ago when Obama, rather than making rising income a priority, instead made his top priority, in the words of Michael Brenner on Huffpo, searching blindly for common ground with people who had declared total war against him. Then he used their language and framing calling the federal budget like a family kitchen table budget.
Where the Democrats could have run on the record is healthcare reform. Rather than pretend they had never heard of it. They should have owned it and defended it, while calling for Republican cooperation to help improve it.
