Discussion: The Ongoing Cat-And-Mouse Manhunt For An Alleged Cop Killer

“the collective belief of law enforcement seems to be that that Frein is breaking down”, law enforcement sounds desperate.

I’d be really surprised if that dude wasn’t long gone by now, thousands of miles away, if not completely out of the country; I also guess that much of the evidence they’ve found lately (Serbian cigarette butts, pipe bombs, etc.) was planted months if not years ago.
We shall see.

They have his DNA from his diapers.

Same way people with guns have been eluding capture in the woods for centuries. It takes a lot of people with a lot of training to corner and catch someone in tough country. It’s what led us to wipe out vast tracts of rain forest with Agent Orange in Vietnam.

You are assuming sanity.

Probably they can date much of that evidence by the rate at which things degrade.

This area has a lot of cabins that are not occupied year round, Summer and Deer season sort of things, I’ve got one myself in Sullivan County Pa. He knows the area, knows which cottages are likely to be empty and many of them have food and offer shelter. I won’t be back to my place until Nov and there’s a 'fridge and electricity there. Such a person could hop from one to another for quite some time and if he’s truly a survivalist he can get by on less. I hope he gets his and soon but don’t count on it happening soon.

This is a popular tourist area for NYC people, a one hour commute. It wouldn’t be difficult to find an empty cabin to hide in. At one point they thought he was hiding in an abandon hotel. Someone who eats tuna out of cans and ramen noodles is not a “survivalist”.

I so wish the national media would start using the nickname for Frein that I saw in the Pocono Record: the Diaper Sniper.

I’ve been a big fan of TPM for many, many years! Recently, and uncharacteristically, many of the articles have numerous and distracting typos! This author is a good example; he needs an Editor!!!

no, i don’t have his skills and knowledge. that’s why i’m asking the question. what are these ways to evade a large manhunt with police and police dogs for weeks?

yeah, but this isn’t some vast land he’s hiding in. my understanding is it’s a relatively limited area and they’ve been very close multiple times. so my question is how is he eluding tracking by police with trained tracking dogs? are they not as effective as i’ve heard?

A tracking dog can only move as fast as the guy holding the leash and the guy holding the leash can only move so fast when he’s trying to both control a large excited dog, keep an eye out for booby traps and trying to keep some defilade between himself and a homicidal maniac with a scoped hunting rifle. When you’re in the woods, a hundred yards is as good as a thousand.

Finding someone who desperately wants to be found in the woods is hard. Finding someone who doesn’t want to be found and may be trying to shoot you is harder still.

I’m getting the feeling this may be one of those “city-folk don’t understand” situations . . .

People like this are the result of all the rabid anti-government bile the Tea Party has been spewing since they came to national attention.

Northeastern Pennsylvania, near the New York and New Jersey borders.

The region is wooded, hilly and rocky. Small towns scattered around between miles of nothing.

I live nearby, and the temps went down to around 36 last night.

Yes, Fox still ignoring a domestic (white) terrorist, but no end to coverage of a disgruntled (black, muslim) employee who went postal in OK.

The cops are within one box of donuts to capturing him.

And don’t forget the more important bit, that Obama was nice to OK Muslims which means he supports the killer. It’s gone by on my feed more than once today.
