What are the apparent commonalities here? Guns, money, white people, paranoia, power, greed, insularity. The vast majority of contemporary gun “enthusiasts” (as opposed to more traditional ones who hunt or for whom guns have been part of their cultural and family heritage for centuries and who rightly view guns as valued tools more than symbols of personal and cultural superiority) appear to be affluent suburban whites who are terrified of being killed or having their perfect white enclaves invaded by darker-skinned and/or Muslim people who are not like them, and they’re being played and exploited by gun makers and the NRA for profit and by craven Repubs for political gain. No different from evangelicals and fundies over abortion and gays.
The GOP base is comprised of paranoid racist chickenshits and addled-brained ignorant thumpers, and they’re all being played by amoral corporations and sociopathic megalomaniacs who have convinced them that Dems are radical godless commies who want to take away their guns, flood the country with illegal Mexicans, Muslim terrorists and shiftless darkies, and triple their taxes to pay for their free things for all agenda. And they all believe it, because they’re so stupid, provincial and ignorant. And mostly racist.
