Discussion: The Most Shocking Excerpts From Woodward's White House Memoir

Yep. Great timing on release of the book, though. Just enough time before the midterms for it to be thoroughly discussed.

He is the most impeachable president ever.

And yes, Bad Gateway! But also Bad Server, Bad!

Gotta read the whole article.

Shot:

“I’ll be a real good witness,” Trump told Dowd, according to Woodward.
“You are not a good witness,” Dowd replied. “Mr. President, I’m afraid I just can’t help you.”

Chaser:

The next morning, Dowd resigned.

Two things:

  1. Trump will never know about this stuff because he never reads anything.

  2. Him being a fashion critic is hilarious.

Aha!

I’m guessing that Trump was getting excerpts from Woodward’s book as he got into his motorcade for his five millionth round of golf yesterday, and was too enraged to focus on his (cheating) game. He needed his Mar-a-Lago cronies to give him a tongue bath so he had to get them on the phone immediately!

Not shocking at all.

"Dowd then explained to Mueller and Quarles why he was trying to keep the president from testifying: “I’m not going to sit there and let him look like an idiot. And you publish that transcript, because everything leaks in Washington, and the guys overseas are going to say, ‘I told you he was an idiot. I told you he was a goddamn dumbbell. What are we dealing with this idiot for?’ ”

“John, I understand,” Mueller replied, according to Woodward."

I found this little episode interesting, if only because it shows the kind of exchange that was going on between Mueller and John Dowd and implies that Mueller has a complete picture of what’s going on in that madhouse.

You might be right. What an alarming best-case scenario.

This seems like a telling quote:

Priebus is quoted as describing Trump officials not as rivals but as “natural predators.” “When you put a snake and a rat and a falcon and a rabbit and a shark and a seal in a zoo without walls, things start getting nasty and bloody,” Priebus says.

Not shocking, but scary as shit that we were all correct in our read of the situation.

It would be nice to dream that Trump was play-acting at least a little, that he was only half as dumb and incurious and impulsive behind the scenes. Nope, it’s just as terrible as we thought.

I wish it were so, and it clearly was this way in the first year of the Trump Usurpation. However, that required some since that the rest of the government would keep Trump under control. Both the Cabinet and especially congress has utterly failed to check Trump. That has foreign allies looking elsewhere. The French/Germans are looking away and going to go their own way. The Japanese and Vietnamese and others in Asia are looking at more accommodation to China. India has also dramatically slowed its drift towards the US axis. And central American countries that formally were kept democratic have taken Trump’s cue that holding onto power illegitimately is acceptable. Finally the South Koreans are desperately trying to increase links with China in case the US as Trump keeps threatening pulls out.

If not fully checked by 2020, it will likely be too late as a realignment will already have taken place.

“Everyone says he is crazy – which maybe he is – but the scarier thing about him is that he is stupid. You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.”

This is why it still will not surprise me one bit if he sits down for an interview with Mueller. His ego and narcissism are screaming to him that he can beat Mueller at his own game because he’s the smartest man that ever smarted. Every lawyer or pundit that says he’d just perjure himself needs to be proven wrong. Everyone who doubts him needs to be put in their place. For those reasons, he probably feels absolutely compelled to meet with Mueller.
