On its face, it’s straightforward and ironclad: When Trump officials leave government employment, they agree not to lobby the agencies they worked in for five years.

But loopholes, some of them sizable, abound.

You overlooked the biggest loophole: Because Chiselin’ Trump’s administration is just barely two years old, none of the officials were able to accumulate five years of tenure working in their former agencies. Chiselin’ Trump’s executive order prohibits the officials from lobbying only those agencies in which they worked for five years, but not those in which they worked for fewer than five years.
