Discussion: The Labrador Effect: Tea Party Bid For Leader Will Push GOP To The Right

Yay! Keep the threat of extremism alive. Total decimation of the Republican Party by 2016.

I think they pronounce it “diffurnt”.

I have this thing for circular firing squads. The more the better!

A planet like object could suddenly appear and descend on the earth killing every living being on the planet. I could win the State Lottery and be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The Republicans could find their sanity and become compassionate and caring human beings and join us in reality. The future is hidden.

You left out “… in the name of Freedom” or as real America calls it “freedumb”.

Memo to the “hell no” caucus (which unfortunately includes my House member): this is Congress, not the Four Seasons. Leadership and reality outside the Beltway don’t cater to your every whim. You have to go out … especially to the swing states … and win people over to your views. You’re not the NSDAP, and this ain’t Germany between the Wars :frowning:

“new leadership, fresh ideas, and a different approach”

Yeah right. More hate-based, sado-social engineering with the self-will to “deal” with the hit list.

Yeah, stay home in November.

Labrador took to task those who were denigrating Sgt Bowe Bergdahl.Let’s see waht affect that will have .

Despite his long odds, Labrador has an clear case to make on the face of it: anti-establishment conservatives ousted the No. 2 House Republican, therefore his replacement should be an anti-establishment conservative.

Excellent argument that might actually work if he can convince 89% of his caucus to sit on the sidelines and not vote. For results that actually mirror the Cantor race he needs to figure out a way that he can claim the seat while only getting votes from 6-7% of the caucus.

I wish we’d stop calling these people conservatives. What they are is nihilists.

This sounds like a script for a “Bizzarro House of Cards” series.

I find it amusing that the tea party type folks, who have only served one term in the house or senate, think they are qualified to lead while wet behind the ears.

No–both conservativism and nihilism are independent social value systems.
What they are is mentally unwell–terrified of the future, paranoid about anyone who isn’t just like them, utterly obsessed with other people’s sex lives.
The belief that the President of the United States is a literal agent of Satan, and that everyone who voted for him is on some form of public assistance, or that  they need to maintain an arsenal in their homes in case they have to single-handedly fight the US Armed Forces “Red Dawn” style–these are neither conservative nor nihilistic ideas.
They are insane ideas.
These are people who are so weak-minded that they formed their political beliefs completely around the “liberals are icky” meme tossed around by Limbaugh, et al. As a result, they support whatever they think liberals oppose and oppose whatever they’re told liberals support.
Their beliefs are completely dependent–well, not even on liberalism, but rather on what someone tells them liberals believe.
I don’t want to seem disdainful about this. They really do need some help.
But to call them nihilists is inaccurate to say the least.

There is not a man (or woman) in today’s R House who has the intelligence and wit of Frank Underwood. All they have in spades is the cunning

Yeah, President Obama and the Democrats had their chance. For about fifteen months in 2009-10. Since then, nothing but obstruction and blame for the consequences of the obstruction by the obstructors.

I was to going cite Labrador’s scolding of his fellow RWNs, but it’s the last time we’ll see a display of courage. From now on it’ll be full crazy

His best was about Palin: Princess Iquitarod. Two opposable thumbs up!
