Discussion: The Key Thing Conservatives Don’t Get About Obama’s Use Of ‘N*****’

Discussion for article #237720

The media’s collective stupidity never fails to astonish me. Obama’s point is that just because peeps know enough not to say “n*gger” in public, there’s still a lot of them that think that way.

But there they go, chasing the shiny bouncing ball and ignoring the real issue.

I think ignoring the real issue is exactly why the media is chasing the bouncing ball.

So, with that in mind, what purpose does it serve asking whether or not the first black president’s use of “nigger” in the context of a larger reflection on covert versus overt racism relevant?

It serves the purpose of giving the Right something else to complain about regarding this President.

Earlier today, a CNN segment weighing in on whether or not it was okay for Obama to use language that is “offensive to some.”

I can’t speak for African Americans, but I would bet that few of them found Obama’s use of the N word offensive in the context he used it. The people clutching their pearls over it are the usual suspects: the mostly white cable news TV talking heads who need to fabricate a controversy where there isn’t one to fill dead air time.

They get it. They’re just epic trollers.

Precisely – though it is worth noting that it’s the headline writer who’s saying klanservatives don’t “get” Obama’s use of the n-word, not the writer of the piece itself who does NOT suggest there’s some sort of misunderstanding at work here.

¨Context is everything.¨

Of course. Those who get their buns in a knot over Obama’s use of ¨nigger¨ in this conversation are either profoundly ignorant, disingenuous as hell, or some combination of the two.

O Dear, The President said a potty word. Someone call Jesus and ask him what we should do !

I knew conservatives would throw a hissy fit when I heard that remark, but Obama is not
running again. He does not care, and neither do I

I’ve listened to the entire interview, and suggest that everyone else does as well. It’s really hard to see how focusing on that word could be part of an honest response to the interview as a whole.

It’s not just that there wasn’t anything inflammatory in the interview. It’s that the whole tone and the central message he was putting out there were the exact opposite of inflammatory. It’s not just criticism that misses the mark, it’s actually a complete inversion of the spirit of what he said.

Speaking of LBJ, as president he used variations of “negro” and the n-word, depnding on his audience. You can imagine how he used it with George Wallace vs. George McGovern.

Or perhaps the folks who got their buns in a knot felt attacked by the President’s words because those words hit a little too close to home. I find it interesting that many conservatives are attacking the President over this as an example of him being a “racial divider.” But who exactly feels divided over his statements? His words don’t seem at all divisive to this white guy. But perhaps those who freely use ni*CLANG in the comfort of their homes (but believe they are #NotRacist) might feel like the President just called them out.

This is like Goebbels discussing whether Jews are allowed to call another Jew a shnorrer.

Why take this angle? Do you really think anyone was upset by Obama’s use of the word nigger in the context he used it? Nobody was. FOX and the rest are just doing what they do…faux outrage. they aren’t concerned but they hope their faux concern infects you. They want you to feel outraged and hope to get that done by professing to be outraged themselves.

Look, you can hold a man down, deny him a life he deserves, discriminate against him and punish him for the color of his skin. You can call him a nigger. The former are staple behavior on FOX. And my guess is off camera the later is pretty common there too.

This is also an opportunity to remind everyone about an important idea from grammar – italicizing words as words (which, in the way this commenting system excerpts text from other web sites, is being ignored):

SCOTUS and the CJ in particular now appear even more foolish and political.

Excellent, I agree about the importance of quotations. For example:

Senator Cruz and his wife attended the NRA gala.

Senator Cruz and his “wife” attended the NRA gala.

But it still seems like it would be helpful if black folks wouldn’t call each other nigger because it seems like it makes it ok in the minds of some white folks that can’t perceive the difference. And I’m not talking about the ones that pretend not to know the difference like some of these folks on TV.

They’ll figure out a way to base their 2016 convention around this.
