Discussion: The ‘Incredible Tug Of War’ Over O'Care Repeal And Medicaid Expansion

Hi. I’m from the government, and I’m here to take away your Medicaid.

Don’t worry. My buddy here will provide you the same service. He just wants “a little something extra” for his trouble …to cover his golf fees.

“Medicaid expansion would be difficult,” Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), a House Freedom Caucus member, told reporters. “Some of our states chose not to expand Medicaid and now some people in Congress want my state to pay for somebody else’s Medicaid expansion …"

Typical of a guy who represents a so-called “welfare state.” He has no problems treating his state’s citizens like shit while simultaneously receiving more federal dollars than it pays in.

How I would love to see some states get the same benefits of federal dollars that it pays in. I suspect they would be singing a very different tune. And never mind that single payer would cover everyone and save untold trillions.

This is also the same guy who votes against medicare bargaining pharmaceutical prices like the VA; votes against drug reimportation — there’s a fucking term you’ve got to love — bills; and on and on.

How people can be so ignorant to elect these mofos is mind-boggling. Thankfully, Betsy DeVos will remedy that.

Unbelievable.

“I can’t image that a Republican-controlled House and Senate would further something that penalizes 19 states that didn’t participate,” Corker said.

“Penalizes?” Mr. Corker, those 19 states chose to not participate – they penalized themselves.

“You would not be able to fulfill President Trump’s pledge,” one of those senators, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), told reporters when asked about the House conservatives’ desire to end the expansion in two years. “President Trump has said he wants all covered, caring for those with pre-existing conditions. The reality is you would not be able to do that.”

Gee, if only you guys could devise legislation specifically aimed at affordable care for all … I wonder what that might look like and just what might you call such an act? Hmmm …

Between this and Trump’s continual meltdown, maybe the public will get a good look at what is important to the GOP.

They and ACA have worked them in between a rock and a hard place over top of an abyss. And even though they could even fix it’s problems such that it would cost less tax payer money, still keep folks insured and keep insurance companies in business, they can’t bring themselves to do it because it would show Obama care works and prove they have been lying all this time.

Now if there were a way for Congressional Reps. to talk directly to their constituents, wouldn’t that be nice?

“That’s the $94 question…"

Shit, man, if you plan to cut off health care for 14 million people over $94, I will send you a check. Oh, and by the way, it was the $64,000 question, sometimes shortened to the $64 question and it was a game show, not something critical to the lives of millions of Americans, you Putz. Probably forgot that while you were “hiking the Appalachian Trail.”

“It’s not clear that a phaseout of the program would fly in the Senate, where 19 Republicans represent Medicaid expansion states.”

A confusing statement. Wouldn’t that have to be a round number in the Senate (2 Senators per state)?

And, there are 31 states that have Medicaid expansion, not 19, so that number actually should be 62, no?

“Now, watch as I do an about-face, cave completely, and vote to fully scrap the expansion” McCain later added, later noting that “I’m a two-faced clown who pays a ton of lip service to reasonable things, but lack any and all integrity to actually follow through on them”.

Yes, and it’s galling how Corker and Labrador trey to stir up resentment among their constituents. The idea that Idaho and Tennessee is “paying” for Medicaid expansion in other states. Listen up guys, your states CHOSE to not expand Medicaid

But you know they won’t lift a finger to help their constituents because god forbid that would give President Obama a “win.”

These states refused to set up their own state exchange, after lobbying Congress to drop the federal exchange in favor of 50 states exchanges with the Jeffersonian argument that they could do better than big bad Washington bureaucrats.

They refused to push back against steep premium hikes by private insurers.

They refused to publicize open enrollment periods.

They demonized state exchange navigators as unvetted thugs who were out to steal citizens’ personal information and commit identity theft and worse.

These states have done everything to sabotage and weaken the ACA all out of a calculated cynical ploy to gain political power.

Things sure were more comfortable for those fellers before Obama forced them to confront the problem by doing something.

“…is to at first grow the Medicaid program to equalize the playing field between expansion and non-expansion states…”

In other words, to undo what they sought to do when they went to the Supreme Court in the first place.

Trivial correction: Mark Sanford is R(SC), not North Carolina.

Lets see, the conundrum is, private insurance vs. federally funded insurance vs. insurance for everyone.

What do other nations do?
What do veterans do?
What’s done for children and the elderly?
What did Romnerd do?
What’s that ACA thingy?

The goal isn’t how to keep insurers rolling in cash is it? The goal is just healthcare for all.
The models are out there and functioning and the gist is simple, just eliminate the piecemeal system and have one coverage, one plan, one program for all from top to bottom.
Hell, appoint a healthcare czar and hand them the reins and end the squabbling amongst the ill prepared lawmakers and braindead current POTUS.

Or, fuck it, if it has to be for profit insurance, then up the quality and standards and make it affordable, write-offable and prioritized, like say, the military because somehow, we magically fund that and operate around the world practically seamlessly.

Poor Pubbies. The election of Trump was the light at the end of the tunnel for Pubbies trying to get rid of Obamacare. Funny how that light turned into the headlight of a locomotive coming their way and the tunnel is just wide enough for the train to pass through.
