Discussion: The GOP Distraction Meme: Obama’s Every Move Is Merely Deflection

Discussion for article #223834

There’s an important ideological function to this distraction meme, beyond the superficial partisan demagoguery. It paints the Democratic administration as all-knowing and all-powerful, exactly the kind of intrusive government that should be cut back so far we can drown it in a bathtub. Behind that of course, is the tax cut/entitlement cut “solution” to every problem that appears on the horizon, further skewing the distribution of wealth to the elite.

Since clown Reagan, the GOP will take any “issue,” real or not, and use it as propaganda.

If only we had cut taxes for the wealthy, Benghazi would have never happened.

This story is a distraction from the scandal that there is nothing of substance to report.

How long can a political party that is incapable of living in the real world remain relevant,I often wonder.

This story is a distraction from the distraction of the day …

or something like that.

As long as their constituents keep living in that same fantasy world. FoxSpews helps a lot on that end.

Just what are you saying about those Taliban-like Duck Dynasty guys?? Huh? Seems like a distraction to me, though I am so distracted I can’t recall what from.

The distraction theme has to exist to support the “Obama is evil” meme. Since he by definition never tells the truth, everything he says or does must be a feint and part of his master conspiracy to destroy the greatest country God ever placed on Earth.

Or so the story goes.

“…As long as they don’t get distracted…”

They won’t, because distraction isn’t a hindrance. It’s the point.

Distraction is the vehicle for attacking President Obama. Using the distraction vehicle, the conservative movement never has to actually prove anything. They can pick anything that happens in the course of a day, and claim it’s a distraction from the distraction they claimed the day before. Their contention of distraction is their proof for the truth of their allegations.

This is endless, and it isn’t specific to President Obama.

I see this all the time in right-wing online comments. A cnn.com article may be about chimney sweeps in London, and the comments after the article may be all about chimney sweeps in London, but there is one right-winger SCREAMING IN ALL CAPS in comment after comment that this whole “chimney sweep” business is just another attempt by the Obama-loving Communist News Network to distract from Benghazi!™

It would be comical if it weren’t so pathetic.

Are you implying that Republicans are Furries?

Always saw the distractions as a two part issue. First is the Fox team gets their talking points from on high everyday - so in their world anything not on their daily list is a distraction from their mandated thought of the day.

And the second part is more important - they need the distraction (part of the reason their daily points move off topic) precisely because if you actually spent the time to look into the scandal dujour, it would be found to be nothing and those pushing it will look foolish. If you want evidence of this, just survey the works of Issa - he stayed too long on non-issues, they were shown to be BS, but he won’t let go, and he looks more foolish every time he opens his mouth. That is why BENGHAZI!!! was taken from him, and why they aren’t doing anything with it.

If it weren’t for distraction, the right would actually have to earn their pay. The other upside is the endless litany of scandal helps to actually distract the media from doing their job, since they are having to do 24/7 debunking. Not much time left to look into real issues worth of investigation.

Well when many of their constituents live in the very same alternative universe . . . who knows how long they can remain a viable party. Safe to say as a National party their days are numbered without a serious course correction.

The distractions are used to keep our minds off the fact that in 5+ years, the GOP has done absolutely NOTHING.
They’ve not helped with JOBSJOBSJOBS
They haven’t helped make healthcare costs easier
They havent done anything for students
They haven’t done anything to assist with foreign policy
They haven’t done anything for education.

First it was the birth certificate. Then they moved on to socialistcommunistschoolrecordsdeathpanels. It’s evolved from there.

And the media - yes, the “liberal” media dutifully follows along, parroting their talking points day in and out. Aiding and abetting. THEY are part of the problem.

Vote 2014.
