Discussion for article #238773
When the Pope addresses social and economic justice and environmental stewardship, will some attention starved GOP backbencher shout out “You lie”? or Samuel Alito shake his head while lipping “not true”? I fear for our Nation’s dignity since these GOP nogoodnicks have no shame and the self control of a hyperactive child who’s hooked on doppio espressos.
TPM:
After enjoying sky-high approval ratings for the past two years, a new Gallup poll shows a swift decline in support for Pope Francis in the United States, driven largely by conservative angst. The pope’s overall favorability rating is now 59 percent, a significant dip from 76 percent early last year. Forty-five percent of conservatives now view the pope favorably, a stark decline from 72 percent who did a year ago.
Good. If a Pope isn’t afflicting the comfortable, then he’s not doing his job.
The Pope is moving the Overton window a smidgen to the left. I hope he gives a shout out to the Occupy folks while he’s here.
He’s going to point out to the GOP that if they don’t change their evil ways, The Combover Devil will continue to lead the rest of their presidential field in the polls.
I suppose it would be futility for Pope Francis to remind Republicans that their only way to achieve redemption now is to kill their party and make it an offering to their Unborn fertility idols and the Golden Calf of Greed.
I was hoping he would lay a wreath at the site of the Ferguson killing.
"After Pope Francis issued an encyclical last month that urged global leaders to act on climate change disproportionately impacting the poor, Catholic Rick Santorum sniffed that the pope should “leave science to the scientists.”
That’s exactly what the Pope has done on the climate issue. You, Rick, not so much.
