Discussion for article #243788
Hold your ground.
Everyone knows the price of oil will never rise again. May as well change that 40-year-old law.
Seems like a reasonable trade. Which means the Republican base will hate it with a passion.
All those low gas prices will soon be going away. That’s a good thing, unless of course you’re poor. But hey, who gives a shit about “those people”?
And if there’s one group of people who know how to compromise, it’s the current Republicans.
“It’s decision time!”–Harry Reid
Everyone’s a comedian.
The real threat here is Radical Petroleum Extremists. Why won’t Republicans even use those words?
No deal unless $1 per barrel goes to the SNAP and WIC programs. If they balk, make it $2.
Higher prices for things we think are bad (e.g. gas) are exactly what motivates people to use things we think are good (e.g. solar). If you want to give poorer people an energy subsidy, by all means go right ahead, but preserving the carbon option for poor people is wrong and patronizing.
oh good… end the oil export ban and then finish Keystone because it was all going to be exported anyway…
“Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said Tuesday that there is one last sticking point standing between members and heading home for the holidays: the issue of lifting the oil export ban.”
Wanna bet? Ryan hasn’t finished showing the Freedom Caucus what he traded away to get the House deal. I strongly suspect they are going to barf all over it, in particular that they rider regarding Syrian refugees has been removed.
Do you know whether the Dodd-Frank weakeners got tossed, Davey?
I don’t. I have only read/heard about snippets. Ryan is supposed to release the whole thing to the press after he has a closed down session with the republican caucus later today. He has promised that they will get 2-3 days to read it all, too…so another extension is going to have to happen.
Can we get Sarah Palin and the “Drill Baby Drill” crowd’s take on this please. I’d love to hear that.
I like the cut of your jib.
Come on now.
Can’t the Kenyan Usurper use the same flying DeLorean that he used to plant those fake Hawaiian birth announcements, to somehow retroactively get it passed last week when Congress finally gets its thumb out of its ass (after winning the “War on Christmas”) and passes some larded up POS a few weeks from now?
Makes sense. Then we can send all of our oil out of country and when shortages come, blame the Democrats.
From what I’ve read exporting American produced oil would raise the price of oil to refiners who would then of course pass that cost onto American consumers. Republicans are keeping that factoid quiet as they attempt to change the law. Good on Reid and the Dem coalition who are insisting on making the renewable energy subsidies permanent in exchange for supporting the repeal of the export ban. Hang in there Dems.
Plus, somebody has to sell to those good buddies who used to buy from ISIS, before we bombed their oilfields.
