Discussion: The Buck Stops With Who? How The WH Blew Up Its Own Narrative On Comey

It’s not a question of being psychic. It’s entirely a matter of time travel and Jedi mind control.

2017 in this country is Lord of the Flies writ large. The saga of Simon (in the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is feared rather than revered) points to the demise of science that demystifies the world. The story of Piggy (“You can’t do it, because you can’t”) depicts the inevitable fate of ethical standards based on reason that are unsupported by enforceable law in the face of fear-based force. Ralph is the consensus-seeking pragmatist among us. And Jack is the ignorant but canny, fear-engendering, charismatic, ruthless, rule-destroying, power-hungry self-proclaimed leader who would be tyrant.

A lot of time has been wasted focusing on “Who is Donald Trump?” He is clearly Jack. David Gergen last night asked the most important question: “In these times, as a people, who are we?” We must be Ralph and Simon and Piggy and more. We must have each other’s backs at all times. And together, we must force Trump off our island for our own fragile experiment in democracy to survive.

So trump pretty much gets every single person in the white house to lie for him, then in one interview proceeds to confirm that they are all lying. Brilliant!

@albert911emt they can’t even get their stories straight on just basic facts of what Trump said or did - mostly because Trump doesn’t seem to really consult with anyone before making a decision or opening his big mouth

Somewhere here yesterday there was a story from one Drumpf’s lawyers relating that they always went in pairs to talk with him, since he had a “tendency” to recall a “different” version of what was said. Having two of them helped keep the train on the rails.

The buck stops with him.

Until it doesn’t.

Gergen last night called him a fabulist.

Any bets Trump thinks he said fabulous?

Let’s not lose sight of the most important fact here. As Lawrence Tribe pointed out on MSNBC last night, whether you believe Trump’s version of the events, or Comey’s (through his associates), Trump obstructed justice. Trump sought assurances that he wasn’t being investigated, and he sought it from the man who (1) was conducting the investigation and (2) serves at the pleasure of the President.

But who will prosecute this? No one, it seems. Trump has taken Mitch McConnell’s Obstructionism to new levels of evil. If you just keep obstructing, apparently you win.

And the nutjob base loves a winner! So, Trump can plan on re-election, too.

Your point is well taken. We may once and for all get the tragic confirmation that for the GOP, justice is purely situational, and based upon party affiliation. Which would mean the end of our country, at least as the Founding Fathers envisioned it.

Somehow, politics became a team sport, and the GOP just can’t be critical of their own team. No matter what.

Be cautious my friend
As the bubble clouds the judgement of those on the right , so does it cloud our perspective when we limit our input from only left sites
It will be a slow and arduous journey as the light bulbs start to go off .
The Conservative entertainment complex and a Republican party that is bought and sold will fight tooth and nail slowing the process.
Watch the nightly newscasts for a window on what Mr and Mrs America perceive as news. They are not political news junkies like us , but headline readers.
See what the newspapers in flyover country are saying .
That will be your barometer of progress

Regarding Lester Holt’s interview yesterday…I’m still wondering what it was that tRump handed Lester Holt before the two of them sat down. It was a sheet of paper that Holt looked at and neatly placed under a folder on his lap when the interview began. It was never referred to at all but it was caught on camera at the very beginning of the interview where the microphones had yet to be turned on. I’m curious about what that was. My only guess is that tRump handed Holt the questions he wanted Lester to ask of him.

It was a list of quotes of Democrat’s past criticisms of Comey, according to Chris Hayes.

One crazy thing is that even if Trump weren’t a clownishly incompetent and imbecilic criminal, even if he were an honest guy who was seriously trying to be a good President–absurd, but bear with me–we’d probably still have this level of scrambled communication coming out of his White House. He’s famous for deliberately promoting chaos and infighting in his organization; it’s evidently one of his crackpot theories of management, like how impulse decisions are perfectly fine, because his management style is governed by his madness. He’ll never try to be a good President, of course, but even if he did, this lunacy would continue.

Maybe Trump is right here. Democrats do anticipate losing… so maybe they started the investigation of Trump’s campaign last July, just in case:)
