Discussion: The Big Questions Facing Congress After Its Summer Break

I’ll check it out. Tucson is pretty civilized, the rest of AZ, not so much.

Not a damn thing in here about “statesmanship” and “responsibility to govern.” These plutocrats raid the treasury, raid the generosity of their donors, and just enrich themselves. That’s not American Exceptionalism but it is very similar to a lot of countries they themselves look down their noses at.

Using hyperbolic headlines, like how the GOP “may help blow up the country,” makes TPM look silly. You’re journalists – you’re supposed to know how to use words to clearly communicate information. Using that kind of violence-evoking metaphor is way below your normal standards.

Proving yet again, the gop/bags can’t govern. And every single one of them is a waste of our tax dollars on their paychecks and benefits.

All they do, all day long is bitch and bellyache! Govern? Not so much.

The only thing stopping them is their inability to govern…

Perhaps a discussion on Capitol Hill about “Statesmanship” is in order. These “elected officials” spend 8 hours a day panhandling to fund their campaigns and also their PACs. These “elected officials” demonstrate time and again that they have no knowledge of the constitution except that presented by pressure groups and think tanks, so how can they uphold, preserve, protect and defend it? Even the Reps and Sens I like are caught up in this capitol hill “3rd Temple” which has become just as vile and corrupt as Herod’s 2nd Temple in Jerusalem. Ponder that, Justice Roberts!

'tis a pity for everyone so many have to resort to such poor quality self-medication.

Why don’t we leave Congress to their vacations before we bring them back to Washington. It is always a fun time in the old town hall. If the debate debut doesn’t stun us, nothing will.

Call the Hensley’s.

Interesting statement. I does appear that the Senate and House have pretty much been unable to accomplish anything… on their own. Maybe it would be better if they were “suspended” for two years, and we have POTUS and SCOTUS redirect this blindfolded meandering country.

For a Party which espouses positions disliked by the majority of Americans, the Republican Party does remarkably well.

How and why that is should be as much a part of Democratic strategy and tactics as the slop the Republicans wallow in.

Something the media utterly fails to say. All they do is pull out the false equivalency card so they can blame the President equally. Time and time again.

Agreed, it is troubling when voters chose to elect those who want to dismantle the government. Many though are working for their puppet-masters who paid plenty to ensure their election. Certainly, they are not working for us.

Completely OT: Is Tierney Sneed related to the Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed?

“Will the Export-Import Bank be reauthorized?”

I read an interesting piece last night that both Boeing and GE are pulling their republican donations based on the Ex-Im issue. Serious money, too…millions in both cases, from all sorts of congress critters and PACs.

That sort of influence-peddlin…I mean constituent statement tends to catch the notice of politicians. So my early guess on this one is, it passes.

No idea, but I believe she grew up in Florida, not the Chicago area, if that has any impact.

Simple truth:
If it’s anything that might help the country, not gonna happen
If it’s something obama is involved in, not gonna happen
If it will put more money in the pockets of those bribing the gop, It will pass immediately and be vetoed.
So, same old circle of all mouth and no action and blame obama again.

When you think about it how could they get anything done? Given the majority of folks in congress, certainly all the GOP’ers, are in a bind. It’s hard to appeal to mega donors that have wants antithetic to these of the voting public then get votes from that public. It’s hard these days. You have to grovel for money from folks that fuck over “the hard working people” then get those “hard working people” to vote for you…all why you are calling them a bunch of lazy slags when you think no one is listening.

What a mess. Many American’s elect folks ( Cruz etc ) to create problems and not solve them. So I guess we should expect this shit.

I’m sure there are more than 5 ways for the GOP to royally screw the country when they return from break, but have it your way…

All they have to campaign on are the three G’s: God, Guns, and Gays.
God: Push the trifecta of “anti-abortion”, “ten commandment monuments”, and “Religous Free-dumb”
Guns: Do whatever the NRA wants them to do. i.e. “Conceal and Carry for ALL”
Gays: Anti-Gay Marriage (see GOD).
All of this with strong racist messages on immigration, police brutality, and mandatory sentencing laws (all of which they heartily support.)
