Discussion: The Best Conservative Reactions To Tubman Bumping Jackson From $20 Bill

If you’ve ever watched someone die you might see a similarity to their agonal actions and this GOP’er tripe. That crap above is from a gasping dying part of America. Their America is passing away.

Watching a senile 98-year old man in the throes of death isn’t easy. He’ll spit at you, flail, shit his diapers and then scream you’re hurting him when you try to clean him up and feed him. It’s pretty much like watching the end of the Republican Party. Put on your rubber gloves and face mask because they’re shitting their diapers and spitting again.

The right still hates America.

And they still honestly don’t understand why they’re losing the minority and women’s vote?

Take out the word “honestly” and I would say yes. In large part it’s about what people choose to understand or not understand, and there’s definitely some internal intellectual dishonesty involved (as well as plenty of the external kind).

We could use a $25 bill.

No we can’t; not while there is also a $20. When was the last time you used cash, Greta?

At least this falls under the fancifully stupid, instead of the usual hateful bigotry.

I’ve seen the ‘Jackson = Slave owning Democrat/Tubman = Gun toting Republican’ one a few times already. Best of luck opening up any discussion of why that might be to the types of people who un-ironically post this type of stuff.

Any of you pearl-clutching libs here clutching your pearls because Tubman used guns? No? Because listen up, right-wingers, I’m actually just fine with it. Frightened suburbanites fumbling with unnecessary Glocks and shooting their innocent neighbors in line at the supermarket, that I’m not fine with. Harriet Tubman ready to gun down any slavecatcher that tries to stop her, no problemo. Hope that’s not painfully confusing or anything.

Ah yes, the “civil rights/ abolishonist leader here was a Republican” dodge…

The “Party of Lincolin” died during the civil rights movement… The shambling corpse that took its place is A completely different party.

That image is so dynamic. I love the hand held out to bring others along. Sadly, they will undoubtedly go with a boring headshot instead.

TPM:

In a Thursday morning town hall, Trump called the move “pure political correctness” and said it’s “very rough” to pull Jackson’s likeness from the $20.

Because Andrew Jackson was a delicate flower, and his dead corpse’s desiccated feelings will be so hurt by this.

“Slave owning founder of the Democrat party replaced on $20 bill by Gun-Toting Republican”

Because 1948 - 1968 NEVER F#%&ING HAPPENED!

I too like that design. I love this thing conservatives do where they think liberals recoil from the idea of shooting slavecatchers and owners. It’s why the damn fools fired on Fort Sumter.

Come now. You can’t expect right wingers to accept change gracefully. Especially not when it involves replacing a slave-owner with a slave-freer. After all, it’s still 1863 in their universe.

I love how these are just the kinds of guys who scream about schools being dumbed down. Yet they don’t know (or pretend not to know) that:

  1. The democratic party’s roots actually go back to Thomas Jefferson. The name was just different. Just like the Republican party came from the Whigs, Free-Soilers and other parties.

  2. The democratic and republican parties are not the same thing NOW as they were THEN.

  3. The image of a ni(CLANG!) with a gun stealing other people’s ‘property’, i.e. other ni(CLANG!) fills the Young Conservatives with total fear.

  4. Harriet Tubman could not vote.

  5. Benghazi!

Tracked it down to a young-adult biography cover. Great storytelling image. Too interesting for money, like you say, too much a departure.

I held my father’s hand as he died of cancer. Nothing like that at all and I find these comments offensive to those of us who have been there when a loved one died.

TPM:

Appearing as a Trump campaign surrogate Wednesday, the retired neurosurgeon [Ben Carson] said while he loves Tubman, “we can find another way to honor her,” like putting her on the $2 bill instead. …

The conservative pundit [Gretsa van Susteren] said the Obama administration kicked off a “completely unnecessary fight” that could have been avoided by giving Tubman her own denomination, like the $25 bill.

“We could use a $25 bill. Put her picture on that and we could all celebrate. That’s the smart and easy thing to do,” Van Susteren said on her show Wednesday night.

I like how the Republican solution is to put Tubman’s likeness on a bill that either doesn’t exist or is so barely available that most people think it doesn’t - like sanity or pro-women policy in the GOP.

It seems those comments are overlooking the fact that Tubman was a straight-up, RL version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy fighting in a cold civil war and continuing the fight even after it turned hot.

So, hells YEAH I’m fine with “gun-toting” Tubman.

It’s the Idiot Next Door who keeps forgetting to turn on the safety, doesn’t secure his guns or ammunition, or just carries the gun around like it’s his blue blanky and he gets nervous if it isn’t within reach that I have the issues with.
