Discussion for article #236066
¨MacCallum, who had been nodding along with Geller during earlier portions of the interview, wouldn’t have it.
“No, no, no, where are you getting the Rosa Parks comparison?” MacCallum said. She brought up Donahue and even the Pope, saying, "if you want to make a difference, you do it in a Christian way, you don’t do it in a crass way by insulting someone’s religion.”¨
She’s lecturing the Jewish Geller on how to be a good Christian?
And Ingraham: ¨“We shouldn’t unnecessarily insult people, personal attacks.¨ Pretty rich, coming from her:
¨What was unusually vicious, even for the often nasty radio host, was that she decided to interrupt an audio clip of the heroic Rep. John Lewis, the youngest person to speak at the march 50 years ago, speaking on Saturday, with the sound of a crackling gunshot.¨ (here)
To be fair, I suppose that’s beyond insulting.
And so on, with the rest of 'em, from Donahue to O’Reilly. Man, I hate Geller, but these are some pretty worthless critics.
There’s a lottery in the GOP. Every now and then, if you lose the lottery, you have to take a reasonable position.
It’s heavy lifting, trying to find the redemptive factor among these frauds.
“We live in a sick society that some people think it’s good to taunt other people”
It’s Tactic #1 of the conservative movement.
We live in a sick society that some people think it's good to taunt other people
Sounds like a good description of Steve King as well.
At best, she was a courageous free speech activist; at worst, a “provocateur.”
No, she’s a coward that hid behind stupid people that did her bidding, poking a short stick at a snake.
I’m against the bigotry and hatred the right constantly spews, but Muslims should have the same reaction to cartoons as Christians have to Jesus in a jar of piss…by not shooting anyone. Why equate Muslims with “poking snakes” or a “hornets nest”? That’s offensive in its own right.
To characterize this as a “free speech event” misses the point. Geller’s agenda is genocide. For her and her followers, the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim.
She should have had this event in Tel Aviv.
It is offensive when it is applied to all Muslims but if applied solely to their crazies while recognizing that Christian groups have their crazies such as the guy who killed Dr. Tiller it is simply recognizing a reality.
I don’t disagree, but here’s the thing. I don’t disagree because I share those values. Some do not. We can’t expect everyone in the world to share our values.
I would expect that most Muslims wouldn’t react by shooting anyone, but a radicalized element is on a hair trigger looking for an excuse to engage in mayhem. Hoping they won’t or holding ourselves out as an example will never change that fact. We can’t influence what they “should” do, we can only influence what we do.
Under that circumstance, if our goal is peaceful coexistence if not outright harmony, is it wise to taunt and provoke them in defiance, or is it better to find a way to seek partnership with the less extreme adherents of the faith to oppose these radicalized elements, and to show that broader community that it’s in their self-interest to shun these radicals? It seems all we’re doing by defending this alleged “freedom of speech” and stopping there is exacerbating the divide with those of good intentions.
Were we to just fold our arms and widen our stance and insist, hey, this is the way we do things in America and you don’t have the right not to be offended – which clearly is true according to our First Amendment – my guess is that the Islamic radicals turn that into a recruitment campaign. And our right wing Judeo-Christian radicals are doing exactly the same thing.
I guess the bottom line for me personally is: just because one can do something doesn’t mean one should. And given that some will do it anyhow because their agenda is genocide, all we can do is counter their speech with our speech.

Which is exactly how most Muslims reacted. Do you blame all Christians for the actions of Eric Rudolph?
Oh please! The FOX Noise machine and it’s paid pundit mouthpieces and Repuke Con & Bagger thugees (but I repeat myself) have conducted a scorched earth policy against Democrats in general and this president in particular forever and a few of the Rightie loons tepid scolding of lunatic and fanatic Pammeycakes Geller is nothing to cheer them about at all. Sorry, but it’s FOX, and I’m allergic to con and bagger bullsh*t. They will, one and all, act like a bunch of whining tittybaby fools until there is a president in office they support.

Geller was asked about Trump’s remarks on Fox; she complained that the Donald “flaps his tongue” too much.
So, Pam. Explain to me again when free speech is not free speech?
If anybody wants me, I’ll be at the theatre practicing my “Fire!” calls.
As difficult and nauseating as it is (and it IS!), I think you have to defend Geller - EVEN if it seems she’s “asking for it”.
The proper response to hateful speech is not violence. I would have supported any Muslim that wanted to protest, or boycott sponsors, picket, debate, etc… But the moment there’s guns in response to speech… I’m out and Geller (unfortunately) wins.
Geller is an extremist (hiding behind the jewish religion) who will do anything (even to putting humans (non-jews?) in harms way) to get a violent response.
Since morans like Geller want attention, perhaps we should handle her like the Westboro church extremists?
No, Pam, it’s NOT a free-speech-right issue. That would be if the Government told you not to say what you say or they will jail you. When the sane world says “that’s a terrible idea, and you’re a vile, stupid gargoyle” that is NOT a free-speech issue. That’s called factual synopsis.
One can only hope, that with this event
Pam Geller’s “career” is finally ended, just as Palin’s
last looney tunes speech ended hers.
