I don’t get it. I’ll never get it. But I know and like many people who voted for him, and some of those people still support him. It’s beyond my comprehension and makes me so sad.

I think the one thing I failed to take into account about the 2016 election was the extent of the agita that had caused the Brexit vote and the rumble of unrest in Europe; I didn’t realize it was actually everywhere.
@kelaine - if they are otherwise decent then they are not convinced, they are simply being tribal. They would rather put up with him because he is a Repug than have anything to do with a Democrat.

Well, there was a boom of shocking force when it socked the fly, because it’s a big fish and they attack as fast as any fish that swims, and there were some yikes when I realized I had a seriously strong fish on, but they tire relatively quickly if you keep the pressure on and the guide had me just slide him up on the beach and into the boat it went, because the flesh is notably sweet, like crab as much as anything. I imagine the carved-up flesh went splat in the frying pan, but we were sitting drinking rum while that happened.

Trump is playing T-ball. The older gentleman gently places the ball on the tee, Trump winds up and swings at it as hard as he can, the young woman in the middle wearing the hot pink dress with a heart-shaped hole to expose her shapely bosom says something (I can’t quite remember what because of the bosom I’m momentarily trying not to focus on), then the other dude runs down the ball and flips it back to the older gentleman, who seems to be suppressing a frown of disapproval while he adjusts his huge glasses and ponders the meaning or lack thereof before setting up the ball again for another mighty swing by his boss.

That’s not how the committee feels. My view is that Speaker Pelosi’s approach has through the summer to produce some meaningful results before the demands to change course will reach a point where she’ll have to adjust. Her recent concessions to the committee are a sign of the political reality she is facing of supporting an approach that growing numbers disagree with.

Well, sure, the regular folks, neighbors and relatives, who’ve always voted Republican for fiscal and cultural reasons, even as the party became ever more corrupted. Fearful people, people who think the world is changing too fast. Lots of them are troubled, though. They know not so deep down he’s not a right guy, as they used to say.

His ability to mold reality is gut-wrenching. Even when we laugh at his buffoonery, we are falling for it.
Hell, if I were a post millennial dispensationist, I’d be convinced Trump was the Beast of the Apocalypse and that his stupidity was foretold as a ‘head wound’.

It’s the truth, though. Especially read in the light that Revelation isn’t some prophecy of future events - it’s a screed against the dangers of empire in general, Rome in particular, told through symbol. This reads quite well as a critique of the power of propaganda.

The voters hired trump to “up end the chess board” …in essence to blow things up. I think the voters forgot the the nuclear codes were included with this job.

I’m aware of his current job title. And I didn’t say the people who voted against us are idiots. Functionally, in terms of self-interest, many are not making good or sensible choices. And Trump himself is an idiot. If either of us had a hundredth of the money he’s lost over the years we’d be extremely wealthy. He’s been a spectacular failure his entire life. I could prove that in any court in the land. If he’d been born into Barack Obama’s circumstances we would never have heard of him. He’s a symptom of the problems we’re facing. He’s there because of structural problems, not because he’s good at anything. I stand by every insult I’ve hurled at him.
