Discussion: The 5 Wildest Things The Ex-GOP Utah Attorneys General Are Accused Of

Discussion for article #225072

Interesting how the crooks are attracted to running for Congress, which they must see as a real free for all of crime.

Utah is home to quite a lot of fraud and corruption, but it doesn’t get as much notice as, say, Louisiana or old industrial cities. I believe that the difference is that the Utah corruption is so often aimed at people outside the state, rather than mostly dividing up the spoils of the state/local government budget.

One should avoid penny stocks in general, but, over a couple decades of observation, I would advise that people avoid the stocks of any small companies incorporated in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Boca Raton, or Israel unless you are able to investigate them thoroughly.

Darn, I also have Polynesian friends. Didn’t know that I could use that to get out of paying bills. Who knew?

“Former Utah attorneys general Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow were accused Tuesday of numerous bribery and obstruction of justice charges, most of them felonies … Shurtleff, a Republican, served as the state’s top law enforcement official from 2001 to 2013. He was succeeded by Swallow, also a Republican.”

All done in the name of Mormonism so it must be OK if ultra-right religious nutbags are doing it.

What’s funny to me is that it’s all so small-time. If you’re going to be a crook, go big.

Am I the only one who is taken by the low rent nature of this corruption. Corruption on the cheap.

I guess the difference between corrupt on Wall Street and being corrupt in Salt Lake City. Big time Wall Street criminals steal many billions from millions of people, and pay multi-billion dollar fines with other peoples money. No human being is actually charged. Big time Salt Lake City criminals have friends who pay for hotel rooms, the use of fancy cars and threaten people with polynesian enforcers, and pay with their careers and many years in Fed Med.

Lawson compared himself to “Porter Rockwell” to explain his relationship with Shurtleff, the documents state. The reference was apparently to Orrin Porter Rockwell, the legendary bodyguard for Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon Church.

Knowing Chicago mob history I’ve heard plenty of scary names dropped. I know nothing about “Mormon leg breakers”. This is fascinating.

The real difference is that they are respectable, white guys. They don’t fit the popular stereotype a crooked, ethnic, hustler politician so they tend to get blotted from memory.

Did they make Swiss Mitt an offer he can’t refuse? Maybe Rafalca’s head turned up one morning?

Like Son of B.O.S.S., for example.

You never heard of Crazy Porter Rockwell and his brothers George, and Norman? These guys wanted to start a Mormon mob war!

Right. You’re not playing in the big leagues unless you’ve got a reverse charitable remainder trust.

Mormons must’ve seemed really odd to people in the 1830’s and 40’s (hell, they seem odd to me now). Imagine a group of Scientologists moving into an area, voting in blocks and trying taking over local governments, talking about creating Theocracy?
