Discussion: Thailand Won't Deport Saudi Woman Seeking Asylum To Flee Alleged Abuse

The head of Thailand’s immigration police said Monday that an 18-year-old Saudi woman who was stopped in Bangkok as she was trying to travel to Australia for asylum to escape alleged abuse by her family will not be sent anywhere against her wishes.

Great.

Thailand’s (notoriously corrupt) law-enforcement agencies now look better than ours.

“As of now, she does not wish to go back and we will not force her. She won’t be sent anywhere tonight,” Surachate said at one of several news conferences at the airport.

Buddhism. One of the very few religions which aren’t still practicing misogyny as policy.

Theravada Buddhism is the official religion of Thailand. 94.6 percent are estimated to be Buddhist; 4.3 percent Muslim; 1 percent Christian; and 0.1 percent other or have no religion.

Although, how one is “estimated to be Buddhist” is a mystery…

I read of this young lady’s plight yesterday.

Each day brings a kernal of wonderful news although sometimes we have to look pretty hard for it. THIS is today’s example, thanks for sharing this great news TPM!

Funny how we’ve gotten to the point where public officials’ statements are now a priori considered to be at best partially true.

I hope they’re trying to work it out so she can get to Australia as soon as possible. Good wishes from afar, Alqunun.

Let’s hope she doesn’t tape herself and jump into a river, like the saudi sisters in NY.
