Always expect the idiotic from Texas. Apologies to Austin.

Damn, I was really pulling for the secessionists on that one.

It’s OK.
At least they’re not screwing up anything truly important here–
while they’re wasting time and our money proposing something impossible.

Well, yeah, there is that – but it is so much fun to watch them make even bigger fools of themselves.

Edit: I mean, look, they’ve done the rest of the nation no favors by pulling this stunt!

Well, what about the rest of the states? Can all of US have a non-binding vote on the ballot that asks if we even want them in the country?

Were they to secede it would definitely change my mind about that wall to keep out those “others” from across the (new) border.

TPM:

Texas GOPers failed to pass a measure Saturday that would’ve asked voters to decide whether the state should secede, the Texas Tribute reported.

I’m not sure whether to feel hopeful that sanity prevailed, or disappointed that we’ll continue to be stuck with Texas.

Try to imagine an America without Texas; without Rick Perry and Greg Abbot; without Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Louie Gohmert; without George W Bush and without. . . . so much more. I have to say, the thought becomes very appealing.

"If the measure would’ve passed, voters would’ve been faced with a non-biding, survey question on whether they thought the state should be independent from the rest of the country "

Note to the writer (I just can’t call her an author)----the first “would’ve” should be “had.”
The second should be “would have.”

I have no idea who told you you were a writer, but you should be aware that people will lie to you a lot, and that your mother’s opinion is understandably prejudiced.

Get a copy of the Harbrace Handbook, or Warriner’s English Usage, and commit most of it to memory.
Also, buy a copy of The Elements of Style by Strunk & White.

Then you’ll be well on the way to being an actual author.

What’s ironic is that the people who support this probably consider themselves to be patriots. Nothing says patriotism quite like wanting to secede from the country.

Go Ahead make it binding - I dare ya.

While we’re at it - citing the Texas Tribute? Ain’t no such thing. It’s the Texas Tribune.

The Texas business establishment would never let that happen. All the Texas based airlines and interstate petrochemical transporters would have to relocate. The establishment will humor the baggers and secessionists, but when money is at stake, they will put the low-lifes in their places.

The headline had me puzzled for a moment since the Texas legislature is not in session (it meets every other year). This is all internal Texas Rebublican Party stuff; the Executive Committee unsurprisingly voted down a proposal to put this dumb-ass measure on their primary ballot.

The baggers wanted this so that their compatriots in the secessionist movement could be enticed to leave their bunkers and vote in the Republican primary. The establishment has enough trouble with the baggers and don’t want the secessionists to become yet another guest that won’t leave.
