From my understanding a felony charge of theft of person in TX, the property must exceed $2500. There must be more to this story than reported.
If we look at this from the standpoint of relative punishment, I’d expect nothing less than the auto da fé for Trump.
Seriously, I’d think that two years in jail for stealing a dumbass MAGA hat is quite excessive and uncalled for. I did see the video after the incident and the guy did no one any favors, even if there was some slight satisfaction at seeing it rain on little Trumpmonsters’ parade.
Recently, they even arrested a girl student for taking a MAGA hat off of a fellow student in class.

In another article they explain that one of the battery charges are because she slapped the male teacher’s arm as he grabbed her to lead her out of the classroom.
The maximum possible sentences will often make you gulp but really you shouldn’t be throwing drinks at people and taking their stuff. Unless he’s a real screwup I think a few months of community service would make the point.
They are now taking passports and questioning the citizenship of Americans of acertain color.

I totally understand this sentiment, and part of me agrees with you regarding the civility debate. The other part is having trouble with accepting or encouraging violations of bodily autonomy, regardless of how scumbaggy the person is. I can’t really square it with my insistence that people keep their hands off my body and respect my personal space and possessions.

So the lesson, kids, is next time you see a MAGA hat and you know the person wearing it is an enemy of the nation your only choice of action is to SYG. They love SYG in Texas. And I fear for my life as long as MAGA exists.
