Discussion for article #240691
Too little, too late.
so… just so I’m clear Principal Daniel Cummings…
the Irving ISD Student Code of Conduct and applicable laws have prohibitions against student curiosity and initiative?
How long before Barstool Palin denounces Gov. Abbott for stirring up racial hatred and hatred of police?
Thank goodness Greg Abbott had enough time to gauge public opinion on this topic so his statement would reflect the prevailing side of popular opinion!
And that’s the best this poor kid will get from any Republican politician, because to apologize for such a colossal level of stupidity would be unthinkable.
“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
Only to comply with the state GOP’s platform against teaching critical thinking skills. Seems that it “undermines parental ‘authoritah’.”
Wow, it only took the Gov, what, 4 or 5 days to take a stand?
What’s amazing is the backlash from the right-wing in this country. Obviously, had this kid been white they’d be outraged (like they are at everything else). This might be a great time for them to examine their inner prejudices and confront some lingering issues.
To be fair, I agree with you but do at least commend him for speaking out; especially when the majority of his party is up in arms because this kid is being defended while-not-white…
Exactly. Still, when a wingnut RWNJ loses Greg Abbot, you are way the fuck out on a skinny limb.
I’ll bet Abbott’s been getting private earfuls from the Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and especially executives of tech companies in Texas, who know goddamn well that some of the brightest engineers and researchers they can hire are non-Caucasians/non-Christians from other parts of the world. Good luck getting those folks to move to Texas, where they can expect their children to be subject to the same kind of abuse that Ahmed and his family have been experiencing.
You might as well expect Booby Jindal and Mike Huckabee to suddenly endorse abortion rights and the concept of separation of church and state.
No governor. The last thing you want to do is shoot a kid unjustifiably. You may need to start by reinforcing that one to law enforcement. Then we can move up the Maslow hierarchy on things not to do.
That would require self awareness.
Yer a little late to the garden party, Governor, and we know why. You had to discern and calculate the political ramifications of a statement of truth. What a sad state of affairs.
I would agree, although given school violence and stuff I do understand policy to look into things like that. It is a sad world and I do not think the police should have been involved though. And in no way was what happened to the kid ok, it was profiling based on some overblown fear.
This is probably a risky political statement in a town like Irving.
What’s with the wheelchair? Was Abbott mistakenly arrested by the police or is he getting over surgery?
Tree fell on him years ago.
