Discussion for article #227712

I didn’t realize that Emily Post had a new book of Bagger Etiquette out.

Ms. Tripp went on, “Obviously I do ask important questions, though, such as: ‘Is anyone in the home homosexual, Unitarian, or vegan?’ I am responsible for the child’s welfare, after all”

What a childish response!

And how old are Alice Tripp’s children?

Texans are not shy. They’ll likely ask how much you earn and who your daddy was. But not if you keep your guns locked up?

Seems a bit coy.

Alice also teaches her children auto safety and let’s them play on busy streets.

Perhaps it’s all in the delivery. Just ask, “Whar’s yur guns,” and the proud owner will produce them.

I was taught knife safety when I was a child and I still cut myself on occasion when carving some roasted flesh.

How’s about, are the guns locked up while you leave the kids home alone? You could kill two birds with one stone.

This thought may not have occurred to Mrs. NRA but you don’t have to teach gun safety if you didn’t have the guns around the kids in the first place? There is no other thing that such preposterous twisted logic works for.
Would she let her 16 year old daughter go over to the boys hangout and only be worried about if her kid was listening when she gave her the talk. You know, that talk.

A study last year from the American Academy of Pediatrics found that about 7,500 children in the U.S. are admitted to hospitals each year with gunshot wounds.

Man, that’s a lot of children! Maybe as parents we should ask a lot of questions about general household habits to those families that host our children, and not just about guns. According to the CDC 109,500 children get treated in hospitals for poisoning each year. Chemicals, cleaners and medicines are the most likely culprits. Ask your neighbors how and where are their medicines and other chemicals stored.

Dave. You’re on the beam with that summary.
I’m not a TX native but my better-half is.

I’m the extrovert between the two of us-- but Jeebus!
Over the years-- some of the questions she’s asked folks out-of-the-blue have caused me to blush.
Or making statements with the subject within earshot.
And it’s not as if she’s being cruel-- she’s an incredibly nice person.

I’ve had to bite my tongue, leave the room, you name it.
And it just never occurs to her that some questions/statements should be out-of-bounds-- or left for later.

Alice Tripp concluded by dispensing Prozium capsules to everyone in attendence, as is mandatory under new United States of NRA Federal Law. Those refusing the Prozium were summarily executed.

“I teach my children and grandchildren gun safety. That’s the best insulation.”" because it is so effective in insulating them from bullets sent their way by children who haven’t been taught gun safety?

This woman is lobbying hard for an indirect Darwin Award.

Actually home-schooling is the ‘best insulation’.
Nothing gets through.

Guess what. Household hazards are things which have uses. The real comparison is how many other toys for adults kill children?

Lots of two and three year old toddlers wound / kill themselves and others each year with handguns. How well to toddlers listen to gun safety advice from adults?

It’s best to just wait until you’re picking your kids up from their friend’s house. If you see paramedics bringing your child out on a stretcher with an x over their eyes, only then is it OK to ask, “So, I guess you keep guns?”
