¨It’s made me embarrassed to have your father on the wrong side of history," he said.¨

You and millions of the children of Republicans all across our nation.

“Beau took the high road and decided to do everything he could to keep a good relationship with his parents,” she said “even as they
consistently rejected an essential part of who he is as a person.”

If Beau Miller really believes that their “relationship will heal”, he’s deluding himself. His father doesn’t see him as a functional human being but rather as an issue to be tolerated during the holidays. Most likely, he’ll go to his grave resenting his son for his “choices.”

Well, family values are out the window for this family. Mr. Miller’s political career is more important.

And we have a new candidate for the biggest asshole in Texas. Way to go, son! When does your Fox show start broadcasting? I’ll be happy to NOT watch.

I feel for the guy. My own parents have exactly the same belief, that somehow you can reject a core aspect of their child’s identity but still claim to “love unconditionally”. They genuinely don’t understand how hurtful that is.

One must look at this from the Republicans’ point of view. Their entire raison d’être is to mistreat people. If local laws prohibit that, Republicans are sad. Therefore, the laws must be repealed.

I hate to disappoint you, but Louie Gohmert owns that award and refuses to share.

Pointing out that someone is a bigot is not spewing hate towards that person. I can’t stand this argument from the right that they are somehow victims of intolerance to not be allowed the freedom to be intolerant. It’s ridiculous.

“You see son, my livelihood (i.e. my govt paycheck) is dependent upon catering to hateful homophobes that make up a majority of my Texas district. Yes, this country is evolving and I do love you, my gay son, but I know that I can’t love you and have a job at the same time”.

“From my wife and I’s prospective, it’s up to him. We’ll want to talk to him…”

What a venal scumbag. As far as he and his wife are concerned, it’s entirely up to his son whether or not the family can unite and be together. It’s his son whose choosing to be gay over choosing to be with his parents and when his son finally stops being gay, well then, things will return to normal. Is there a level of Hell that would accept such a person?

EDIT to add: His son is also HIV+ and while it thankfully isn’t the horrific death sentence it was in the '80’s, you might think that the elder Miller would be concerned for the emotional health of his son and the family as well given that news.

Nope.

He probably hates his father already.

Gays, he said, have “become a protected class” whose status is “discriminatory toward me” and other Christians.

“I’m a person who believes in individual liberty and freedom,” Rick Miller said “and I don’t discriminate personally.”

Senior Miller contradicts himself here. No, sir, you obviously do not believe in individual liberty and freedom for all of us. You, sir, are bigoted – that is a fact, not me expressing any kind of hate.

Bingo. And I am sad that you’re right, but I’ve lived long enough surrounded by evangelicals and watched this scenario play out numerous times.

And these fuckers have the audacity, the unmitigated gall to criticize the state of fatherhood in places like Ferguson and Baltimore?

This says all that needs to be said about this guy:

Cut to the chase: The man is a bigoted ass.

So many parents would be proud to have a son who is articulate, president of his law school class, and involved in a loving, committed relationship. They would willingly love and accept the whole person their child has become. How sad the senior Miller isn’t one of those.

So protecting LGBT from discrimination is somehow an affront to Christian religious liberties?

That’s a logical fallacy so large you could drive a truck through it. It’s not like equality is a zero sum game where if LGBT people are protected from being fired, refused housing, or refused employment, then somehow Christians are not allowed to be Christians?

UNLESS being Christian means that you MUST discriminate against LGBT people, as the argument seems to be.

Funny how they don’t seem to be so adamant against the divorced? A strange lot, these Christians.
