Discussion for article #246410
He’s so incompetent, he can’t even abuse power correctly.
I knew this would happen. I knew it when I read that David Botsford was one of his lawyers. David is too damn good at what he does.
Dammit.
Perry: I defeated Obama. No other presidential candidate can claim that.
Highly predictable sophistry on the Court’s part. He’s not being prosecuted for his use of the absolute veto power. He’s being prosecuted for his use of it to generate a threat that was intended to influence the official conduct of a public employee. I suppose this will just become SOP in TX now…Abbot will turn around and start threatening to veto funds for all sorts of shit in order to punish liberal-ish Travis County (where the grand jurors came from) and its officials.
Whatever…this is what we get for allowing Reconstruction and not just building a wall along the Mason-Dixon. Maybe it’s just exhaustion with it all, but I really wish a movement would spring up to simply boot some of these states out of the union. Fuck 'em.
So, the former boil on the ass of Texas will go un-lanced after all.
Quelle surprise? Say, has ANY Texas legislator with an ® next to his or her name EVER been convicted in TX and actually gone to jail?
My money’s on a big no!
Well so much for justice not being served
True and very funny too, your comment that is, not the dropping of charges.
I do hope someday, and it would be in the distant future when the state turns blue which demographic experts say will happen, that Democrats then in power pursue R’s with the same fervor and vigor to prosecute and incarcerate them as the law allows and schadenfreude demands. One can only hope this will be the case.
Right there with you
Yes, the really sad part here is Abbott and other Pubbies will threaten department heads, justices, other politicos and anyone who gets in their way without fear of reprisals.
TX, the f*cking hell hole of the country on so, so many levels, for sure.
The Totally Republican judges in the Texas Appeals system are not going to let a good ole boy Republican suffer for his crimes. This is just like letting Tom Delay skate on his illegal use of corporate funds, laundered through the RNC and sent to aspiring candidates for the Texas House of Representatives to shift control to the Republican Party.
Republican crooks look out for each other in Texas.
Texas has not yet sunk to the depth of South Carolina or Mississippi. Or as we Texans used to say every year when the national rankings on population welfare ranked by state was published “Thank God for Mississippi.” It was always Texas - 49th and Mississippi - 50th (with 1 being the best…)
Your probably right. But at least politically Texas is in the running for worst dictatorship in the USA.
Heck, Texas Republicans could silently depose Kim Jong-Un’s dictatorship in North Korea overnight and neither the NK armed forces nor the NK populace would notice any difference!
"the assssss of Tejas are upon you…."
But Kans Ass is in the lead going into the curves…
TPM:
His [Perry’s] mugshot (and ice cream trip immediately after being booked and fingerprinted) made quite a splash after he was indicted. Perry’s political action committee even tried to make money off the mugshot with T-shirts.
It’s always enlightening when Republicans show how little they respect the rule of law.
To point this out, the only Texas Governor ever impeached, James “Pa” Ferguson, was removed from office for the exact same thing. He threatened the budget of a department run by someone he didn’t like if the person didn’t resign. The person refused to resign, the Governor cut the budget and the Legislature impeached and removed him from office.
Doesn’t matter. His time in elected office is finished. Three things did him in – the crash-and-burn presidential run in 2012, the crash-and-burn presidential run in 2015, and. . . and. . . I forget the third thing. Oops.
Understand that Perry was never genuinely popular even in Texas; his great appeal was the ® after his name on the ballot.
Good to know but…fat chance the Republican Legislature would do so to any politico with an R after his or her name these days.
I swear Rick Perry (or Tom Delay for that matter) could have been caught with a bloody knife in his hand, a dead, well stabbed hooker in his bed, all the while caught in the act of packing fudge in a 14 year old boy and he’d get way with it!
Texas, what a stinky armpit.
Oh goody, he can get back in the presidential race now.
