Discussion: Tenn. County Asks God To Spare Its Citizens For SCOTUS Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

Would it be wrong for me to quietly chuckle if a tornado destroyed the county seat?

They are asking a “God” that killed all women and children in two cities to spare them. Sounds more like Satan to me.

Yes, an audibly loud guffaw would be more appropriate.

Nothing gets a crowd warmed-up better than a good ole round of Synchronized Thumping.

Kill the messenger? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

God asks that you to take a number. She’s experiencing long delays, what with school massacres, torrential flooding on the east coast and record droughts out west.

Like my dog knows he can chase the mail man away by barking, because the guy always leaves?

If I remember my religious training correctly, I believe he makes a list, and checks it twice, in order to find out who´s naughty or nice.

Only then will he begin smiting.

Today, in a press conference, Governor Haley opined, “We know God smiles on South Carolina because the sun is shining.” I guess God likes to keep us guessing about his moods.

With all the talk about gun safety and mental health, this should be exhibit A for who should be denied access to firearms. These people are f*cking nuts.

Damn. If what you say is true, I´m gonna have to rework my whole cosmology now.

Wow. Humans have created many thousands of gods. Can’t you find one that isn’t a genocidal asshole?

At first, I read “ebible-fellowship” as “edible fellowship,” which made at least as much sense.

OK, fine, I did it for you: “As of the census[of 2000, there were 105,823 people, 42,667 households, and 30,634 families residing in the county. The population density was 190 people per square mile (73/km²). There were 47,059 housing units at an average density of 84 per square mile (33/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 94.73% White, 2.91% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.”

Seek immediate medical attention.

If what you did in the car with your GF resulted in tire damage, you should probably check the suspension while you’re at it. I’d recommend some heavy-duty shocks.

Never mind; smiting is smiting and after having been smitten (so to speak) one has been smote - Interesting that the god of all love and creativity is called upon to smite right, left and center. Makes one wonder if calling down the wrath of god makes the caller happier because it sure doesn’t seem to hurt those called upon to be smitten.

Maybe but if it keeps you from getting all smitten up it’s worth it. I don’t think God minds marriage equality, by the look of things, but it’s best to stay on his good side generally. As far as that goes those Blount Countians aren’t so dumb.

And what action of yours (or the SCOTUS) resulted in God inflicting you with a left rear tire?

I like my feet and want to avoid your fate.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Blount County is home to Maryville College, the largest Alcoa plant in the US, the Knoxville area’s MgGhee-Tyson Airport, Blackberry Farm Resort, and is a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
It’s part of the Knoxville SMSA, which has a population of 837,500+ for the nine-county region.

Knoxville, next door in Knox County—where I live—is home to the University of Tennessee and several smaller colleges, and near the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Anderson County. This is also the headquarters for TVA.

This is a religious area, and the religions tend toward the fundamental kind, but we also have UCC congregations, an MCC, and several Unitarian-Universalist congregations.

It’s just that some of the Blount County commissioners are a bit over-eager to pander to their fundamentalist base—it is a conservative area, except for Oak Ridge, Norris, and Knoxville.
