Discussion: Tenn. Bill That Lets Counselors Deny Service To LGBT People Heads To Guv

I canā€™t wait to hear what happens when the first instance of this happening involves a therapist who rejects a prospective patient because heā€™s straight. (Based on the sincerely held principle that straight people need less help. Or are less faithful about paying their therapist bills. Orā€¦)

Tennesse Therapist: ā€œI am a principled racist. I will never serve a person of color.ā€
GOP: All legal, you have freedom to do so. Donā€™t forget to check if the person is LGBT. That might matter to you as well.

My god, is there really a need for this? Are there that many counselors in TN who are homophobic? Perhaps they should be the patients ā€¦ instead of playing around with the heads of people in need. Seriously, if they really have a problem with LGBTQ people, they shouldnā€™t be in the medical profession. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Once the diagnostic manuals stopped referring to homosexuality as a disorder, I think it was time for ā€œprinciplesā€ to sort themselves out. I would think most medical licensing organizations would view refusing to treat gays as a disbarrable event!

Honestly, you really donā€™t need to put the Ā®ā€™s after the names when it comes to whoā€™s moving this kind of legislation, we all get it by now.

Or white! (Thatā€™ll bring out republican legislators!).
Or Asian, black, unmarried women over 30 (by 30 you shoud be married and pregnant) a military veteran (I donā€™t support warmongers) an ex-conā€¦the list is endless!

OK, now watch what happens when a Jewish person is turned away by a KKKrisitan KKKounselorā€¦

The teahadist taliban strikes again. They really donā€™t do irony do they? It looks like there is going to be a serious fracture in the Republican party as the Hate faction splits off. and takes the time tunnel to the 18th century
Note to Reince ; Howā€™s that rebranding reach out big tent all inclusive thingy going?
Looks great except for the gays , immigrants, people of color, Latinos and anybody who is not a white evangelical

Last week, Haslam told reporters that he can ā€œunderstand the reasoningā€ behind the bill, but said he would wait to make a determination on the final bill

ā€¦to determine how much the resulting economic damage might be

You got to add in the poor. Olā€™ Greased Penis and his RepubliKKKlans have a special brand of contempt for them lazy parasitesā€¦

Any therapist who would act to deny someone help should immediately have his professional credentials and certification yanked immediately by any organization that issued them. No one who deserves the title ā€˜therapistā€™ would act as some Fundie or Christian dominionist in regard to a patient.
I wondered how low such hate peddlers and theocratic political panderers could go. I can only imagine next that someone having a heart attack in an emergency room in the South will be asked if he or she is gay.
These are maneuvers that are absolutely staggering in their insanity and depraved barbarity.

This is a very rough game; but considering most southern states take in more from the federal government than they pay out, this may be an opportune time to turn off the money, as in North Carolina. Leverage.

Senators agreed to a change made by the state House in the billā€™s language that would let therapists reject clients based on ā€œsincerely held principles,ā€ as opposed to ā€œsincerely held religious beliefs,ā€ according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

And there it is. THIS puts the lie to all the vile BS about ā€œreligious beliefs.ā€

This is about denying anyone counseling services based on anything they donā€™t approve of. Race, creed, religion, sexual orientation - you name it. If something about the person skeeves you out, you can turn your back on them and call it good. I canā€™t really understand what this is in response to. I mean, have counselors in TN been inundated with requests from gay couples? If there was a problem, why not just tell whomever that you canā€™t help them with their situation and refer them to someone else?

This is truly one of the most blatant examples of a solution in search of a problem.

I donā€™t need to spend $120 per hour to be told about the path of perdition.
You can go see a priest in a confessional to get that info free of charge

The next step in this hideous discriminatory backlash will be for physicians to be allowed by state laws to withhold service based on religion.

This is a very ugly business.

Americans recoil in horror when reading stories of ISIS throwing gay people off building rooftops in the Middle East. Meanwhile, south of the Mason-Dixon the LGBT community faces a growing conspiracy to deprive them of jobs, housing, medical care, access to public facilities, marriage services, adoption rights and a plethora of other things everyone else takes for granted.
Obama talks of the need to defeat ISIS. Coordinated airstrikes aimed at State legislatures in the South might accomplish more.

Just find a non-white or an atheist counselor in Tennessee whoā€™d be willing to deny a wholesome white Christian man counseling services.

Theyā€™d repeal this thing in a nanosecond.

More masturbation by the GOPā€¦there is no mental health advocacy in TN, there are no counselors to deny services, so whatā€™s the point?
