"Him getting fired is not enough," said Dajerria Becton
Agreed, and that probably won’t happen either.
I assume that Officer Casebolt is using his free time during his administrative leave to set up his GoFundMe account.
So, I’m curious, what else do you think should happen to the officer?
She’s a she, a minor, and black. The cop must have thought that if he could pick on anybody with impunity, she’d be it. .
The notion that every single mistake that a person makes should end up with them fired is repulsive. This guy might have made a mistake, maybe not. The internal investigation should determine the truth, or something close to it. But, regardless, it is insane that the call “fire the SOB!” is the immediate response to every small mistake. Why not call for 10 hours of training or something appropriate? No one was injured or hurt in this melee.
Public humiliation would be a good start.
Isn’t that what’s going on right now – what with the video on a non-stop loop on TV? And how is that beyond an officer being fired?
every white person defending these police actions as seen on this video needs to paint the teenager being physically abused face with their own son daughter grandchid family memeber maybe that would change their self centered hearts and morals.
are you unable to see and hear? seriously, what do you want investigate? please respond what do you need to have investigated, does this teenage girl present a threat? put your child in this video
HE SHouLD Be LAUDEd as A HERo FOR CLEariNG Out PEOPle FROm a LOCation wHERE theY DOn’t LIVE nearBY and DON’t HAVE permission tO be THERe. THEY MUSt HAVE beEN lOOKIng for TROuble BEING soMEWHere THEY DOn’t LIVe!!!1!!one!!!
“Small mistake” like brandishing your firearm out of fear of a few kids? Most assuredly, his Department’s “Use of Force Continuum” doesn’t jump from verbal commands to drawing your weapon . . . The officer could (maybe) be defended if he used pepper spray, but pulling his weapon? NO.
I agree with your first sentence–not every person need be fired for every mistake. And, if general over-policing was the only issue, then additional training might suffice. But the totally unnecessary–and intentionally threatening–pulling of the gun puts this on an entirely different level. Some things are so wrong that firing is the appropriate response. Plus, of course, there’s the whole race angle.
If that were my child, I’d not only want the officer fired, but I’d want him to serve some jail time. Hell, it’s not my kid, and I think he should serve time.
I don’t know if I’d agree with the “unnecessary” part of this statement. In watching the video, it’s clear that there are males ignoring the officer’s commands to step away and start walking around to the officer’s flank while he’s distracted with the girl on the grass. This is not to say that I think the officer handled the situation correctly, he should’ve just waited until back-up arrived, but as a police officer (or in general) you never want to get out-flanked.
They keep saying that these kids were in an area that they were not from and didn’t have a right to be. “The initial call came in as a disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave.”
What I saw were people on a public sidewalk. If they were from another town does that really matter? Can someone order you off the sidewalk because you live in a different town? Did they all just show up at a pool party without being invited by anyone? Who made the call to suggest that they were not allowed to be there?
Outflanked? Most of the other officers seem comparatively low-key. We must be looking at different videos.
No one was hurt or injured in this melee? ?
I do not agree. If when my daughter was 14 or 15 she was treated like this by a policeman I am sure it would have negatively affected her for many years.
This girl was not a criminal. If you can call what the policeman did a mistake then I’m sure anything this young girl did could be similarly called a mistake. Did it rate being manhandled and arrested?
As a mother, I think of these events as they would affect my children. Believe me when I say I would have to be restrained from finding this officer and giving him a piece of my mind. Then I would want to find his wife and ask her if she would accept her children being treated like this if they had committed no crime.
Nope, same video. It’s right around the 3:09 mark that you see the officer taking down the girl and a couple of males moving around behind him. Again, I’m not saying that I feel he handled the situation correctly, but there were definitely guys getting behind him.
My understanding is that Craig Ranch is a planned community with very strict HOA rules. As a planned community, the sidewalks aren’t “public” property as we understand that term. The HOA owns the streets and sidewalks, and the HOA dues pay for street/sidewalk maintenance.
