Discussion: Ted Cruz's South Carolina Campaign Chairmen Defend Confederate Flag

Discussion for article #237809

South Carolina seceded from the Union and fought against the United States, Ted. Did ya forget that?? Therefore supporting that flag you are supporting treason and racism SC fought to keep.

Nice going Ted.
Edit:
“State Sen. Lee Bright ®, a member of Cruz’s leadership team, said that
removing the flag would dishonor the memory of those who fought for
South Carolina during the Civil War”

Because racism and treason is honorable, right Lee?

Oh yeah, if you’re explaining you’re losing.

Cruz Leadership Team: Removing Symbols Of Confederacy Is Stalinist Purge.

Stalinism?

That would be something like, oh I don’t know, demanding that newspapers doctor photographs of Cruz at shooting ranges.

Things like that.

Because…of course they did! Chumley is toast. That motherfucker is going down no matter what SC does with that POS traitorous flag.

“We need to be focusing on the nine families that are left and see that this doesn’t happen again,” Chumley said in the CNN interview. “These people sat in there, and waited their turn to be shot. That’s sad. But somebody in there with the means of self defense could have stopped this. And we’d have had less funerals than we’re having.”

Cruz LOVES guns! unless he’s standing next to a poster of one in a photo.

He takes offense to symbolism of a poster of a gun pointed between his eyes. But he loves some flag symbolism!

Thompson designed the flag and editorialized on its behalf repeatedly in the paper he edited: “As a people, we are fighting to maintain the heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause.”

Ted Cruz will never be president but his base will soon have more disposable income having lost the ability to purchase the stars and bars at Walmart. He’s got his eyes on that market.

I guess those dumb bastards that died in The Towers on 9/11 shouldn't have left their surface-to-air missiles back home in the garage.

Ted’s got a “Crackerjack” team on the ground in SC. You can see how well this is going to work out for him in the SC Primary, if by some miracle he’s still in the race.

I would not be surprised if this move pushes Gutless Ted to the top of the heap in South. He certainly lacks the guts to stand up to potential supporters determined to cling to this clear symbol of racism.

I expect a robust debate, as some of those rural right wingers in the legislature listen to their constituents and stand up to their half breed Governor, with Cruz either supporting them or too chicken to criticise them. He could have a huge super Tuesday if he is the only GOP candidate willing to stand shoulder to shoulder with the racists, who I suspect will make up a good chunk of the electorate across the south. Even if its only 15%, that’s enough to win in a field this crowded.

This is going to be damned fun to watch.

Keep defending the Confederate Flag Cruz baby. For every vote it gets you, you lose 2 votes from reasonable people.

Because the only solution to gun violence is moar guns.

Amazingly, they don’t even have the self-awareness, much less decency, to keep their personal opinions to themselves. Truly shameless, these diehard bigots.

Surely there must be some other way to preserve the memory of fallen soldiers, without insulting the memories of all the brave Union soldiers whose lives had to be sacrificed to quell the rebellion. It’s not my fault that the Cradle of Treason is so collectively unimaginative, the best they can manage is some nonsense about heritage.

No, what should have happened is that they should have been grateful that every officer from Lieutenant on up wasn’t executed.

Chumley talks of the victims being armed. Think about it: Black people with guns in churches in South Carolina. Those white bigots that run the place would come unglued.

“characterizing the movement to do away with it and other symbols of the Confederacy as a ‘Stalinist purge.’”

Close, but it’s more like post-WWII laws in Germany that ban Nazi symbols.

And then when the police show up which one of the church members would have been wrestled to the ground or worse because they had a gun in hand when the police arrived?

White supremacists fly the Confederate flag in Germany because the Nazi flag is illegal there. What are they honoring?
