Discussion: Ted Cruz: Second Amendment Is A Check 'Against Government Tyranny'

“It’s like saying, ‘Elect me president of your country so that you can revolt against me.’ It’s an odd way of thinking about government.”

Welcome to the modern Republican Party, and this type of sentiment was echoed by both Reagan and W Bush, who indicated they didn’t like government, it couldn’t do anything right, and should be minimized to the point of uselessness. President Obama is still draining the swamp left by W with his cronies and poorly directed federal administration.

I do agree with you on this, but at the time, that check and balance was directed at a British-style monarchy confiscating colonial armories… mostly small cannons, flint-locks, and black powder necessary to survive while colonizing a hostile land with the high potential of daily invasion from other colonial powers (France and Spain). I doubt anyone attending the Constitutional Convention would agree it’s meant to ensure they can overthrow their elected government because they disagree with the regulatory provisions of healthcare.

I’d hate to break it to little Teddie but, while that may have been true once upon a time, it sure isn’t in the modern era. I don’t care how many guns your little group of private citizen, survivalist, redneck white trash has, once the government starts rolling out the tanks and Air Force it isn’t going to matter.

He walked right up to the Sharron Angle line. How long before he steps over it?

I’ve run into these gun nuts on more occasions than I can name. They want everybody to think they are all a bunch of John Wayne Jrs. when the fact of the matter is that they are some of the biggest and kookiest wusses is Christendom.

The Constitution also defines “treason.”

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

Wouldn’t these 2nd Amendment remedies qualify?

“Mr. Cruz, after you become president, can you give me an idea of a legitimate reason to take up arms against this government?”

Please, please, please, you yammering Christo-fascist yayhoo. Please bring your weapon to bear against government tyranny like the traitor that you are. Please. Just once, so we can be rid of your filthy countenance once and for all. Just make sure someone is recording a video of the encounter so we can all enjoy it.

I recall the fight over larger capacoty magazines. Gun nuts around here were going goofy with rage screaming that it was a violation of the Second Amendment until people started pointing out. “Shit, you guys are just ticked because you NEED all those bullets to hit anything. Second amendment, my ass.”

“”""“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”""

That’s it…that’s the Second Amendment…27 words and 2 of them are “well regulated”. Nothing about government tyranny, open carry, stand your ground, defending your family…or even hunting. Just that a militia ( at that time the term meant a National Guard ) should not be denied.

10 % of the language in that Amendment is about regulation…in fact…well regulation…and yet it seems to never be mentioned. I have yet to hear an MSM type call one of these guys down on that point.

it seems the USSC has also missed the “well regulated militia” phrase. It must be caused by partisan blinders.

But no ones arms have been or are going to be taken away are they?

It’s not about the right of the people, it’s about the right of only conservatives to take up arms against a government for whatever reason they dream up.

I think the argument to bear arms involves the idea that citizen militias are less dangerous to fledgeling democracies than standing armies. Thomas Jefferson’s “tree of liberty” rhetoric was directed at foreign dignitaries and in that sense isn’t constitutionally relevant.

…Yeh

That ‘come-hither’ over the shoulder glance should be on a Democrat poster.

“This guy wants to Cruz you.”

Most presidential candidates don’t put this sort of stuff in writing for two reasons:

  1. it’s psychotic paranoia

  2. if some gun nut actually takes the obvious suggestion to heart and drives down to the local courthouse to gun down a judge who has ruled in a way the right wing finds unfavorable, having Ted Cruz’s flier on the back seat of the gun nut’s pickup truck is really bad PR for Senator Cruz.

I’m not aware of anybody’s arms being taken away, no. I’m not sure what relevance that has to the point I made. Am I missing something?

If the government agents come with black gyrocopters, it might work - if they’re not flying too high.
