A Cruz nomination should scare a lot of folks into voting Democratic! And it should motivate Democrats to VOTE.
Probably another Goldwater style debacle for the Reps.
However…what if he actually wins? He could.
Hillary ran a pretty poor campaign in 08. She was a shoo-in and found a way to lose. Sure Obama was inspiring, but if she ran even a moderately effective campaign he would not have had an opportunity for the nomination.
I can imagine Cruz actually winning if whoever is the Democratic nominee makes a serious blunder or two. The media is biased towards the Republicans and will put lipstick on the Cruz pig and present him as some sort of middle of the road Christian moderate or something. Birthers were hounding Obama for years, but they will find a way around Cruz not being a natural born citizen. Hypocrisy never stops them.
The vast majority of Americans today have never heard of Cruz. They think Cruz is a car.
How he is re-invented by advertising and enabled by the media will determine his fate.

I know, you meant “center of attention by design”, and that is exactly what I meant, he walks into a room and expects to be “better” than anyone already there. His obsession with status I think harkens back to proving he’s white, not some Mexican.

Actually, I believe there is some question about that, not that it really matters. He said he was going to do that, but I have not seen confirmation he actually did, and have seen the question raised by various sources yesterday.

One parent is enough. And Canada automatically grants citizenship to everyone born there. Its true that US doesn’t recognize dual citizenship, but that’s more the exception for most countries than the rule. So from the US perspective, he is a US citizen. From the Canadian perspective, he is a dual citizen.
I am in the same boat on this; I was born in Canada while my father was stationed at a NATO base in Canada. I am a US citizen, but Canada also sees me as a dual citizen. Even a formal declaration of my US citizenship doesn’t invalidate my Canadian citizenship (Exception: The US does recognize dual citizenship for minors. I was considered one until I registered for the draft, which was taken to be a formal declaration of my US citizenship).
There is plenty to go after Cruz about, but the only reason to start down the birther path is to make fun of the actual birthers, not to actually become one.

Agreed. Reagan and Ahnold were also actually fairly good looking, known quantities, and both presented themselves as reasonable people. Yes, Reagan had made many insane comments in the past, but he hadn’t governed CA in such a manner, so he was given a bit of a pass. They also didn’t have to deal with social media. You could stay stupid shit, deny you ever said it, and unless it was recorded on audio or video tape, you could pretty much get away with it. That’s not the case anymore. And both Reagan and Ahnold ran positive campaigns. With Reagan, it was “Morning in America”. Does anyone think Cruz would dare suggest such a thing? I imagine his entire campaign will be about stopping the evils of socialism, overturning Obama’s EOs, fighting ISIS and Iran, and unwinding as much of the social safety net as possible. Other than the Republican base, is there really any American demographic hungry for those things?
His only claim to US Citizenship is through his purported Mother. I need to see the maternity testing.
Maybe just a written testimony from the midwife ?
