Its not really a question. While it is true that SCOTUS has never weighed in on this specific issue to give a definitive answer, it has been raised before. Most recently with John McCain, who was born in Panama while his father was stationed there. The determination was, and still is, that being born of American parents constitutes being a natural born citizen.
As someone else pointed out, there are 2 types of citizens…natural born, or naturalized. Since neither McCain, nor now Cruz, needed to be naturalized to be U.S. citizens, we can safely assume they are “natural born” citizens.
And if we are really being honest with ourselves, the ONLY reason so many are trying to raise this as a valid point is because a bunch of whack jobs on the right tried to make it an issue with President Obama. They were even more off base, but surely we don’t have to play “Susie stuck her tongue out at me, so I am going to do the same”…especially since Susie is this case is a drooling moron barely able to form coherent words.
Cruz won’t become President, for a host of other, mostly valid, reasons. (His annoying voice is going to be a huge turn off…not particularly valid, but it will be a detriment regardless. Much like we tend to vote for the combined taller President + VP ticket…appearances matter in today’s media world).
Let’s try and stay focused on those reasons and not go jumping down this particular rabbit hole. We aren’t going to convince any TeaPartiers that they are hypocrites on the issue, and its exactly the sort of “attack” that they will rally around and proclaim him a martyr.
