What’s interestingly telling…he seems to think that Muslims are already living in separate “neighborhoods.” This is the most knee jerk, ignorant comment I’ve heard all morning…since the Donald called for going beyond water boarding to secure intel.
It’s as if they don’t understand that one of the things that is exacerbating the issue in places like Brussels is that fact that the Muslim immigrants there DO live in separate, stigmatized ghettos with high unemployment among youth.

The Maelbeek metro station is in the city centre, close to the HQs of the European Commision (EU) and the Council of Europe (not the same as EU) , and thus used by a lot of their employees.

Yeah…Maelbeek and Molenbeek sound very similar to American ears.
First of all, for the most part, the US doesn’t have Muslim neighborhoods. Second, most police don’t really know how to identify all Muslims (yeah, that’s right - some Muslims have blond hair and blue eyes. Imagine that.) unless a woman is wearing a hijab or they’re coming from services at mosque. And there’s no way to figure out wheterh they’ve become “radicalized” unless you kick down the doors to all their apartments and mosques. Which I assume is coming.
I call attention to the case of the Sikh grandfather who was slammed to the ground by police officers in S. Carolina I think it was. To them, he looked suspicious and didn’t speak much English. 'Nuff said.
Vigilante justice. That’s what this is a call to.

Maelbeek is a predominantly Muslim suburb that is contiguous with Brussels. Check it out on Google Earth if you have it. Maelbeek is the home neighborhood of the last of the Paris attackers who was captured in that very neighborhood just a few days ago. Maelbeek is the site of today’s metro bombing

Of course in the next few days we’ll see the result of rhetoric by Cruz and those aping him. Random Muslim and Indian (hey, they LOOK Muslim!) people will be attacked pumping gas, buying groceries, walking their neighborhood, visiting a park. Marginally intelligent people (the Republican base) with anger control and substance abuse issues will lash out. And Trump will defend them as people that love America.

On checking maps…Maelbeek and Molenbeek are on opposite sides of Warandepark a well known and central Brussels landmark.
Again, my mistake. Mrs darr and I were in the area two years ago and also in 2006.

Actually not. There’s a bunch of -beek names (beek means stream or river in Dutch and Flemish), so your confusion is understandable.
The Metro bombing was in Maelbeek, on the east side of Brussels, in an area with a lot of EU offices.
Molenbeek, the heavily Muslim neighborhood that Abdelsalam was from, is on the west side of Brussels

So Mr. Constitutional Conservative Ted Cruz, what exactly does it mean to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods” within the boundaries of the United States Constitution? I am really, truly, having a hard time understanding what this even means.
