Garcia’s campaign later told NHPR that she is not enrolled in an insurance plan offered by the Obamacare exchanges.
If she is lying, she’s playing for broke on something falsifiable. So maybe she is and she’s brazen/dumb.
If she’s not on the exchange, then why didn’t she want to answer the question initially?
Republican candidates must know that it’s a kiss of death actually to sign up for Obamacare. Also, a state rep (and NH has a million of 'em) running for Congress in a state with 2 seats must know that visibility is extremely high. The best type of campaign under those circumstances would be to go “open kimono” and answer to the best of your ability, issue statements if needed later. And she either is (a) overly cautious in all of her answers, (b) less-than-“open kimono” on all personal/financial questions, or possibly (c) dodging the question for another reason.
How about this question: If Rep. Garcia is indeed not on the federal exchange, where did she obtain her health insurance?
Maybe I’m too suspicious, but it doesn’t pass the sniff test. Smells like there’s a story there, possibly to prevent the leak of that death knell information of being a Republican using a social program.
Here is the thing. We are all “on Obamacare” to a certain extent regardless of where or how we receive our health insurance/care. Rep. Garcia, just like every other American, can now shop for insurance plans confident in the fact that she cannot be discriminated against for any pre-existing conditions. She can live her life without worry about insurance companies trying to impose an annual or lifetime cap on her coverage. If she has any older children, she can keep them on her plan through age 26.
Nobody can sign up for “Obamacare”. Obamacare is a set of rules that insurance companies must conform to. The real question is does she qualify for a premium subsidy and did she accept it.
Where does the GOP find these soulless sociopaths? There seems to be an endless supply of them. I would hope she doesn’t have a chance to win this seat?
She’s decided to brazen her way through this. Will later say everyone has a right to healthcare and take the federal money and run like all the GOP Governors.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that there are no longer policies that only cover catastrophic. Plus, there’s no such thing as short-term or month-to-month plans anymore as you can only sign up for a policy during open enrollment or if you have qualifying life event (e.g., loss of job, moving out of state or change in family size).
Let’s hope this story doesn’t go away any time soon.
