Stores had a hard time keeping up with the demand for Tebow jerseys, and stadiums sold out with fans caught up in “Tebowmania” To say Tim Tebow was a fan favorite is a major understatement. And people were Tebowing because it was fun, not to mock Tim Tebow. If that’s persecution, send some my way please.
How odd, I look at your pie chart and see a Christian Pac-Man gobbling everyone else up… This must be how Christians feel when they see Jesus in a piece of toast, or a dirty window, or a bowl of fruit loops, or a…
Well, I understand Lil’ Timmeh’s lifestyle has badly regressed since he wasn’t getting NFL welfare.
I remember reading about in some of his earliest post-game press events it was a lot of “god helped ME win this late in the game today” and not a lot of “my teammates and I…” Apparently this wasn’t going over too well in the locker room cause he changed his tune a little later.
I prefer boxer Chris Arreola’s way of handling that:
“God didn’t do the fighting for me, I put in all the work.”
What makes the shitheels think Sam is not a Christian?
Being a Christian really is a choice.
I really feel badly about the poor majority, being picked on or mocked by the minority. How helpless they must feel.
Conservatives complain ____________________ (fill in the blank)
First, Teebow was drafted in the 1st round by Denver, not only b/c of playing ability but also b/c of his character. He had an 8 million guaranteed salary. His jersey was a top seller. So, it’s crazy to say that he was some kind of pariah that was punished for his faith.
Meanwhile, Michael Sam, a co-defensive player of the year in the SEC (the strongest CFB conference in the country) and 1st team all American, suffered anonymous criticism from NFL execs and saw his draft stock drop after he came out. He was ultimately taken in the final round of the draft. He, no doubt, would have been taken higher if he had remained closeted. His decision likely cost him millions of dollars.
So, who endured more for for being true to his principals?
Lastly, Christianity is a faith defined by those that endure, by those that lovingly sacrifice for others and turn the other cheek. It’s not a religion for wimps and complainers that eagerly seek out every imagined slight.
CPVDS (“Conservative Persecuted Victim Derangement Syndrome”)
Because in their view, you can’t be a “real christian” when you’re “offending god”.
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven…But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.…When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men…Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full…Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you…Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long…Woe to you, Pharisees! for you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues…But he gives more grace. Why he said, God resists the proud, but…The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the…But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner’…The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector… .”
Matthew 6:1; Matthew 6:2; Matthew 6:5; Matthew 6:6; Matthew 6:16; Matthew 23:5; Luke 11:43; James 4:6; Isaiah 1:15; Proverbs 15:8; Luke 18:13; Luke 18:11.
And, for all you so-called Christian Conservatives and/or Religious Right who glorify the unfettered free market, there is this: “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.” Luke 6.24.
Spoken to all hypocrites who love to make a very public show of their faith, as in Tim Tebow. You were saying… ?
Based on Tebow’s performances, I don’t think I would even be bringing him up. EVER.
Tebow should have prayed to be a better player.
1.) I’ll bet it wouldn’t take much effort to find people saying negative things about Michael Sam because he’s gay. Lots of people. Saying really awful things.
2.) In general, I think openly religious athletes are tolerated pretty well.
3.) Some athletes do make spectacles out of themselves. They talk more about God’s role in their making of a key play at what is, after all, a game, than Jesus did after he performed actual miracles such as, for instance, raising the dead. Being criticized for making a spectacle of yourself is not persecution.
4.) Conservatives whine a lot. Just saying.
Tebow would start praying every time a camera was on Him. Sam – he just plays football.
I don’t know about being treated better but Sam is a better player, talent wise.
Could Tebow finally come out and get it over with? Then, I’d like him to start dating Sam so that we can see another on screen kiss. Not only would that be hot, it would blow the collective minds of the right like fat bugs hitting a windshield.
Yes, poor poor Christian white boy. Not even a first round draft pick in the NFL could manage to give him the strength of conviction to stand up to the withering scrutiny…he’s so oppressed! /sarcasm
It isn’t his Christianity that pissed people off. It was his sanctimony and his arrogant, flagrant beating people over the head with religion. I’ve got nothing against Christians who understand what it means to BE one. TT aint that guy.
